I'm buying a bike from a buddy of mine's buddy. It is a 1991 CR500.
It currently does not run because he says it needs crank/bearing work. I am buying it for $500.00, it is currently green stickered and he has all the paperwork.
He has a new piston and cylinder head, new clutch basket with new clutch plates, and other numerous parts with the bike.
Is it worth it? I really need help with this one cause this is the first bike I've had since I was 17 years old, but I won't say how old I am now. Let's just say that it's been a while.....a long while.

Thanks

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't buy a 15 year old bike with known serious damage (and potentially more unknown damage) for $500.

Also, I wouldn't get a 500 unless you plan on doing a lot of sand riding.

Allen:

I have to say that I agree with Gomer. It could be a fun "older" bike, but I don't think it is old enough to be vintage. Who knows ... it might be a fun project. I would try and get your buddy to give it to you and tell him you will give him the $500 when you sell it or if you get it running.

Check with the great folks at Service Honda for information on parts and Eric Gorr's Forward Motion Racing as well. They might be good sources of information on the feasibility of this project.

As you mentioned green sticker, I assume that you are in Kalifornia. That being the case, I can assure you this would be a great bike for Glamis according to members here that have had the pleasure of riding the dunes there.

Also ...

Welcome to the site

Be sure and go to your User CP and update information relating to your location, type of riding, etc. After that grab a spot on the couch and tell us a bit about yourself. How long you have been riding, what kind of riding you prefer, where you are located, etc. We will do our best to hook you up with some fellow dirt bike enthusiasts.

Again, welcome to the site and shout if you have any questions!

A CR500 is a monster of a bike, assuming you get it running, if you haven't been on one in a while! Hope your medical ins is up to date!

That's cool but what condetion is it in? If you need parts go to a different part of the site and look for Bernie. He's my dad and he knows everything about bikes. Hint: If it's in bad condition get it and fix it up. Or at least try it's fun to fix bikes. Make something bad look great try it. If it's in good condition just go ride man!!!!!!! Start riding.
