GNCC Drama Builds
Fred Andrews (KAW) took a convincing win in his backyard, moving closer to the GNCC points lead with one round remaining. With previous points leader Jason Raines out of contention due to a broken collarbone suffered at a local race the week prior, the points gap between first and fourth has tightened considerably
leaving Rodney Smith (SUZ) leading Andrews and Mike Lafferty (KTM) by 11 points heading into the final round.
Warm sunshine and near perfect racing conditions greeted riders and fans with Yamaha rider Robbie Jenks grabbing the holeshot, followed closely by Andrews and Barry Hawk (YAM).
Rodney Smith fell back on the first lap after difficulites in a crowded mudhole, playing catch-up the rest of the race. Lafferty worked his way into fifth at the end of lap one, with the lead pack
of Andrews, Hawk, Chuck Woodford ( KAW), and Mike Kiedrowski (SUZ) pulling out a 30 second gap over the national enduro champ by the time pits stops were made on lap three.
The lead group continued to run a quick pace for the final laps, with Lafferty struggling on a difficult course. Andrews crossed the finish line with a 20 second lead over Hawk, followed by
Kiedrowski who slipped by Woodford into the final podium spot.
With one round remaining Smith leads Lafferty and Andrews by 11 points, with Kiedrowski only five points behind them. The final round may prove to be even more interesting with the announcement that three of the top off-road racers from Europe (France) will atttend the race, including David
Fretigne who won the 250cc four stroke class at the Czech ISDE.
