I grew up in Los Angeles and use to ride/race at Indian Dunes, Saddleback, Carlsbad, Escape Country, and Gorman. This was the mid 70's, and I know that these places are no longer.........except Gorman? In the magazines, it sounds like Gorman is still open. When I was last there (30 years ago) there was nobody collecting money, the place was HUGE, with just a lot of riding (open areas, trails, and a big hillclimb area) Maybe the next time we go on vacation to see my folks (now at Arrowhead) the boys and I will take our bikes.....what are we to expect? Thanks

And for those who might remember......I was the guy at Indian Dunes, always PUSHING his Hodaka.

Well, Gorman is still there, and we now ride at Ocotillo Wells and Stoddard Wells too. Still lots of open areas to ride, El MIrage Dry Lake bed is one as well. Tons of tracks to ride now, probably more than the 70's had! Ask 89er, I think he was at least 70 in the 70's. When you come out, bring the bikes, we'll have you join one of our Crew rides. ;)

Beware at Gorman that you're likely to come close to having a few head ons. It's not as bad if you get farther up in the mountains but you still really have to pay attention.

It's funny to hear someone mention Escape Country, it's like someone bringing up the name of a long lost friend, some 30+ years later

( a long lost friend that beat the crap out of ya every weekend :rotfl: )

l leaned to HangGlide out at Escape Country also :yikes:

That brings back memories. I grew up in Mission Viejo and learned to ride at Escape Country on my '73 Suzuki TC100. Watched the World Mini GP there one year. Jeff Ward was in my class at school so I had to cheer him on. I loved watching him in the Race of Champions against Myerscough. Classic!

The USGP at Carlsbad was awesome. My first was '76, back when the Dutch Dentist was winning it every year. I worked selling hats, and my boss gave me a Maico stroker cap as a bonus. What a deal!

Went to Saddleback a few times, too, but Escape Country was closer for us, so that's where the family rode. My brother had his '75 XR75 and my dad was on a '73 TM250 that was previously owned by Mark Blackwell. Good times!

 Oh crap! Now I really feel old. :yikes:

stevert.

That track was BayMare. I raced there a lot back then. That was even before they did mx on the track. We rode District 37 TT scrambles there. I have some photos from there if I can remember where I put them.

Saddleback was a blast. Rode and raced there a lot. Same with Carlsbad. Also did some road racing at Carlsbad. Gorman was great back then. You could ride from the front entrance all the way to Sespe hot springs and back and never see another bike. Over 70 miles. Like MrLuckey said, today it's a zoo. Best to stay on the upper trails and avoid the flat landers.

If you come out to visit the folks in Arrowhead, let us know. We will set up a crew ride at Silverwood and ride to Arrowhead or visa-versa. There are some awesome trails up there and we ride there a lot.

Hey Elk. Take that!>>>>>>>>>>> :moon:
