I got the chance to see three movies this weekend that I reccommend you renting at your earliest convience......

Just Like Heaven-Funny and cute. Don't expect to see too much of Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) in this but he does manage to steal the scenes that he is in....even though his non-napoleon acting is very Keanu Reeves. If you have seen the trailer then you know the story. There is a slight twist but nothing too surprising.

Puddle Cruiser-If you have seen Super Troopers or Club Dread and liked either one, you will like this as well. It was the first full length movie by the comedy troup, Broken Lizard. It was made in the mid 90's and relfects that. The story is a simple college story but the writing is phenominal. Sure, it is the same guys that wrote the Dukes of Hazzard movie but I promise, the laughs are not as cheap and the story line is not as cheesy. Don't let the DVD cover fool you, it is not another teen movie.

Waiting-Wow! I have been waiting to see this one for a while. It is basically Clerks set in a TGI Fridays, Applebees, Bennigans, kind of joint. Ryan Reynolds is genius in anything that he does. The funniest man alive, Dane Cook, plays a small part as well. The writer/director is this cat from Florida who got sick of being a waiter so he wrote a movie. Do him and yourself a favor go see it. It is full of pecker jokes though so don't expect high brow comedy here. Imagine Kevin Smith without the intellectual banter.

Also, if you have not seen Wedding Crashers or 40 Year Old virgin yet, do it!

As you see, I a like the simple laughs.

Anyhow, this is your resident movie freak, signing off.

I think this should be Jamir's weekly feature.

Wedding Crashers and 40 Year Old Virgin (or, as I like to call it: Big Lou -- The Movie) have joined the Pentaverate Of Movies That You Must Own -- POMTYMO (along with Old School, Napoleon Dynamite, and Animal House).

Of course, none of them are Predator.

Honestly, I didn't think Wedding Crashers lived up to the hype. 40 Year Old Virgin was hilarious though.

My DVD recommendations: Dust to Glory (I love this movie), Out Cold (if you like dumb comedies like Happy Gilmour, Super Troopers, etc you will love this), Step Into Liquid (surf movie by Dana Brown) and Kingdom of Heaven (I thought it was excellent).

Wedding Crashers was pretty good, and if you didnt think 40 Year Old Virgin wasnt funny the first time you watched it, watch it again. Every time I watch it I find it funnier and funnier, (yes I know 'funnier' isn't a word).

Thanks for the review. Im probably going to check out a couple of those.

While I understood the intent of ND, it was stooopid. Too obviously stoopid to be funny stoopid.
Wedding Crashers was humorous, not a gut splitter, just humorous. I suppose part of the problem I have with it is that non-acting, same-guy-in- every-movie, blonde-haired, bent-nose dude.

For the record... funniest 2 movies I've seen in years are the Fockers.

Owen Wilson does get a little old after while. I while give you that. But Vince Vaughn well makes up for that. Ever seen Swingers? Or Clay Pigeons? His best work is being that guy that you are supposed to hate but you just like.

like me.

wait, I am the guy that you should like but hate.

okay, so I have had the pleasure now of actually talking with the writer/director of Waiting, Rob McKitrick. The dude is a hell of a nice guy and basically took about 8 years of abuse from Hollywood to get this movie made. Please go rent/buy this flick and support this cat. The humor is a bit brash but it is funny and again, if you have worked in a restaurant in your life, you will love it!

I have mixed feelings about this one. The first one had such a charm about it. I mean, it was filmed in like 3 weeks and basically most of it was filmed in one room with three actors. I would hate to see them blow that apart with some big studio production.

Plus, the original script had nothing to do with Saw. Darren Bousman basically wrote a script that producers thought was similar to Saw but didn't want it because it was too violent. But when Saw blew up, they, being Hollywood pigs, decided to capitalize on it so they got with Leigh Whannell, the Saw writer, and bada bing....Saw 2.

FYI-Darren Bousman is from the city that I am sitting in right now. Cool.
