Hard XR250L Starting

last weekend i kicked the darn thing for like 30 min, then my dad got some starter fluid spray stuff, shot it on the air box and it fired right up afer about 2 more kicks, any one got any clue why it does this? Im new to 4strokes so sorry if i asked a kinda dumb question.
