I usually cut it off and file it down at that point.

Are ya kidding - I do that on purpose on all of my clutch levers. Better... uhhh... grip... and plus, if you ever crash (again) there is less of a chance of breaking it off. I even "modded" one of my own levers and was kind enough to let Red use it on his bike for right now. :D

I've always had bark busters, so this is a new phenom to me. I've busted levers, but I've never bent one 180 degrees before.

Yeah, and my lever has been bent back about 3 times and it still hasn't broke. Not bad for the stock Yamaha lever huh?

Never seen one like that. My brother smacked a 55 gallon drum with his lever and after the ensuing crash he ended up with a clutch lever that was custom bent around the form of his hand. Made it really hard to use since the ball would reach the grip with most of the lever still out.

think that's bad!

You should see what i did to my clutch lever! If i had a digatol(sp?) camra i would show you's. its bend completly around!!!! It worked better than how it was. It would still be on there but my dad bought me a new one:( . He bought it and put it on when i was at school. I still got the bent one I'll try to post a pic some time.:confused:

That is a very dangerous thing to do. You should never cut the ball off the lever no matter how screwed up it is. I personally know someone that got impaled by a lever that had been modified in that fashion.

Hello

What you could do is to cut the ball bit off as suggested but then file the end smooth and round like a trials shorty lever, and maybe bend it a bit more. You are less likely to damage yourself on it, but now have a useable spare lever to stick in your tool bag when you go out riding.

I personally hate the feeling of having to jam the bike in gear without the clutch when you're out and have broken your lever!! One ride I went on years ago, I managed to break two clutch levers - and then had lots of problems riding home!! Good skills -not!:silly:

Heres a picture of some shorty levers which I find work really well, and don't break as easily as they are pretty short, and also allow 1 finger operation. You're fingers don't slip off them very easily even when its really muddy and wet.

I always cut and file my levers and protect them with barkbusters. Thats one less item that has to go in my tool pack.

couldn't you cut the end off a clutch lever then weld a ball on the end?
I have both my leavers cut off so they don't break but I always fear having it impale my hand of something.

MSR Dominator levers---shorter than stock, rubber inserts where your glove makes contact, and they fit inside your Bark Busters!:D
