The weather has stayed nice yet here in Nebraska where I ride trails. I ride on private ground (my folks) so it doesn't close down for winter. I put ice screws in as some of you have already mentioned. I also use grip heaters which I have not seen anyone mention yet in this thread. They keep your hands dry and warm. We ride trails and do a little oval racing on water dams.
It is a real blast. If you havn't tried it yet, you ought to.

You're right, I'd much rather ride in SoCal where you have to chew the air before you can inhale. There's nothing like the fiery burn of a long drag of poisonous visible air in the morning to get you going. I also miss the privelege of paying for various stickers to get to ride in ever dwindling available riding areas.

Let's see, would I rather ride year round in the same climate RC trains in or spend a weekend screwing little metal spikes into my tires so I can go out and high side on some ice and get an impromptu acupunture treatment as my bike runs over me? Seeing as how we have discovered A/C, I'll take the heat.

I just put on the rearthis

Its pretty simple and with some luch you have saved a bunch of money. The only thing you will need is:
Around 100-150 M8 screws 3cm long.
The same amount of locknuts. Twise as many trays.
Two set of tyres. One that you cut away the knobbies and sides and put as protection. The other guiss.
Tools to cut, sharp and screw etc.
Finaly youll need some time in the garage! depending how lucky you are. I made 3 sets of tires until i found the right number and lenght of the screws and the right pattern, all to suit my needs, not too much traction on the sides and plenty enought in the middle for great acceleration.

If you can wait i will make a webpage with photos on everything including the front tire.

I have parked my bike to get the frame and stuff done if I didn't have to I would be out bearing the cold
has anyone evertried the track and ski conversion for bikes looks risky
and expensive
I don't remember were I saw it though

I'm burning up a day of vacation today and fighting the urge to go riding in Fond du Lac. It's in the upper 30's, dark, and looking like rain/snow at any minute!:confused:

I can only afford one hobby at a time so from Oct-Dec, I hunt deer and elk. There are times I use my bike for this. This year I was still racing in Sept, but have not been on my bike much since:( there is rarely a weekend goes by that I am not out in the sticks somewhere. When January comes around I start riding here if the snow permits it.

Yeah, that brown haze over the ship channel and Texas City is pretty tasty too. Getting run over by your own bike is the least of an ice racers concerns when they high-side. :eek:

My bike is 1/2 put away. After Saturday's ride I drained the gas, but held off doing anything else to it.
I'm checking the weather every few hours. If the weekend gets into the high 30's were off for one more ride.

your all yella belleis!!:scream: lol :D here in california you ride ALL year woods and hills in the summer and the desert in the winter i get really mad when im stuck inside. and umm mxaddict were do you think were ride here in cali?? downtown?! hell no we go ride out in the clean air!! and besides all that "smog" is only up by L.A. foo:confused:

Mt bike was parked two weeks ago. The clutch went, and just in time for winter too. My bike gets a good 4 months rest.My bike is in my room right now in lots of pieces. Speaking of winter, it's snowing outside my window right now, and it's staying on the ground. I cant wait to get out snowmobiling. The mtns here got lots right now.It's also pretty cold for Dirtbiking now, it's about 29 degrees here or about minus 3.

Yeah, I drained the gas, wiped them off with my tears, gave them a loving pat on the rear knobs, covered them in the basement, and closed the door......... till x-mas to see what santa brought me in the way of bolt on Extras!:)

Having moved from Michigan, I'm having a real problem trying to figure out when to take my bike down for it's seasonal maintenance????;)

I guess I'll just keep doing the normal weekly stuff until it really needs a top end or breaks. :eek:

I just found out I get my frame tomarrow I want to put my bike together and ride in the winter
what can I do to "winterize it"?
my jetting is a little rich in the warm weather so how should I change it the weather is probably -10 to -20 c so what jet should I use?
should I use one hotter plug?
should I mix my gas the same?

Yep, just did it last night as it was snowing a bit. :( Seasonal maintenance, some traveling, pheasant hunting until 1/10/02 and a season pass at the local ski area pass the all too long winter months around here. Planning a week of riding down in Missouri/Arkansas in late Feb helps, too.

Nice to not have to worry about a topend this year on the thumper. I did it every winter regardless on my 2 strokes. Not sure how long I'll let the 400EXC go.

I guess technically my bike isn't put away. I just can't make myself do it. I still want to ride, but a foot of new snow in my area (and a good two feet in the rest of the county!) kind of keeps me off the bike. :(

The weather here has been holding out really well. A lot of 50 degree days. I guess when we get our first real snowstorm I'll start to think about some major pm. Hopefully the bike won't be down for too long. Never know when that freak December or January day turns from ice to mud.:)
