ok, I cam across this old 1985 kdx 200 (2 stroke). Basically what is happening is when I go to start it, it is very hard to start unless I push/tow start it. it also back fires some. when it does finally start sometimes it revs up pretty high and when I actually start riding when I start shifting into higher gears it starts to bog down and losses probably 1/2 of its power. I have pulled the carb off and cleaned it throughly twice. Somebody told me that the new sparkplug i puit in it is probably not gapped right and I need to play around with my idle screw but i thought I would ask people with more knowledge in this field. if anyone knows what the problem is or knows what i can do to fix it any comments would be greatly appreciated.

My bike is something like this to, i think ur bike is getting to much gas and needs to be more lean try cleaning air filter, put new plug in.

Also u may need to get the bike jetted. i suggest making the bike run more lean by getting a main jet that is a size or a couple size lower then stock
also put the clip on the needle to the highest slot. if u not familiar with jetting find a mechanic who knows what there doing check on the bike.

after u done testing the bike out, pull the sparkplug if it's wet or black its to rich, u need to move down a size in main jet and try again.

if the plug is white, the bike is running to lean, go a bigger size on the main jet.

the ideal color is a light brown or tan color

also u want to find a large open area where u can really ride fast, because the most accurate way to check sparkplug color is after revving the bike and going fast, then kill the engine coast to a stop and look at ur sparkplug.

hope this helps somewhat :D
