head problems for 94 suzuki RM125

My bike went under for hurricane katrina, but seems to have good compression and spark. im looking to buy new head.What i need to know is, can i use my same weisco piston when i buy a new head or will i need to buy a special size?

If you are buying the stock head and not doing any modifications to it, then you will not have to buy a special piston. If you are buying a high compression head, or you are buying the stock head and then making it a high comp. head by milling down the gasket surface so it comes closer to the piston when it is at top dead center, then i would look at getting a special piston from weisco just to be on the safe side. A high compression motor will be harder on the piston, and you will need to look at running at least a 50/50 blend of racing fuel and premium to keep detonation levels down so you dont break the electrode off of the spark plug, ruining your motor, and causing you a a big bite in the wallet.

it would be a stock head. nothing race.When i went to price new head, they said it would come bare,would i be able to take parts off old head and replace?

There is nothing on the head that comes off. I'm not sure what they are talking about when they say it will come bare.

im talking bout the suzuki ATEV and the springs.

If they mean only the head and not the gasket....then u will ned to order a head gasket too......and you probobly will want to buy a new spark plug, thats probobly it.
If the bike was underwater, then i would look at the wheel bearings steering head bearings and etc. to be safe

I assume that's the exhaust valve. It is part of the cylinder, not the head.

thats it,,the cylinder i meant. by looking at the prices im starting to second guess this bulid.

Can I ask why you are replacing the cylinder if it was just under water? Bikes get drowned all the time and come back to life with some TLC.

If it went under from flooding, then I have to assume it wasn't running at the time. Just replace all of the fluids and see if it still runs. I would be more worried about the electrical system.

when i put the spark plug on the coil outside the cylinder it has a spark. no it wasnt running but when i drained it and put a new spark plug it it wouldnt kick over but when it did it sounded like a firecracker went off in the muffler and a lil smoke would come out like it wanted to fire. the muffler was rusting so i went to take it off to see the extent of the damage, i never saw a muffler held on without the 2 lil screw holding it on it was just pushed into the cylinder and when i was trying to take it off the seat it was in broke off around the edge, thats y i need a new cylinder. the electrical system seems fine if i get spark?

no, it wasnt running atthe time,, it has spark, so i assume electrical is ok. answer to rmguy, when i went to take off rusty exhaust the metal around the exhaust on the cylinder broke off,,doesnt it take 2 screws to hold an exhaust on?

The pipe is supose to be held on with 2 extension springs. Sounds like someone added the screws. You can get the cylinder welded to add tabs to attach springs to. Here's a picture of how the pipe attaches: <click here>

ok,,it was missing one of the springs, and when i went to get it out of cylinder it was froze and i had to manhandle it to get it out and broke off piece of cylinder in process. i have the cylinder off right now and i have a face cloth over it. my question is how long can i keep it off before the lower end starts to rust, or what can i do to prolong it till i get a new cylinder?

If you have the piece that broke off, you should be able to take it to a good welder and have it welded for much less than the cost of a new or used cylinder. To prevent rust in the bottom end, get any and all water out, and douse the crank and bearings with 2 stroke oil. If it was submerged and water got in there and sat in there however, there may already be rust damage to the bottom end.

You can douse the lower end in WD-40 to displace any water but as the Pig said if it's already rusted you have more problems...IE. replacing the bearings. I buy WD-40 by the gallon and spray everything that can rust everytime I wash it to keep the rust at bay.
