It can be done, I used to do it when I still lived at home but had my new computer for university. I'm assuming you want to use the same playlists on both computers, so if you are having trouble getting the music from one computer onto the other you can make a file on computer number one with all of your music, load it onto your Ipod as a file (go into my computer...click on Ipod...paste folder in), then go to computer number two and retrieve the file and copy it onto your desktop or wherever it is that you want it. At least I think that's what I did to get it started. From there you should be able to use your Ipod on both computers. I'm not sure if thats what you were asking but hope it helps. Good luck.

Songs are much cheaper and once you download them they are yours to do as you please.

iPod/iTunes uses this to prevent music sharing. There are freeware applications to you can use as work arounds visit http://www.ilounge.com/ for all the details. If you are just trying to play your music at both home and work just plug it directly into the speakers instead of running through the computer. Are you using a mac or a pc? You can also move the music files over as data from one computer to the other using an external drive then adding them to the music library the iPod calls home.

You still use the i-tunes software to "manage the i-pod". The i-tunes software converts the mp3 files for i-pod use on whatever machine you are using. It's just that when you buy/download in mp3 format (or whatever you choose) it is much easier to share/transport the files between computers................or with your friends. ;)

Also, not only are the files much cheaper than i-tunes, they seem to be better quality as you can select several different file type and quality settings when downloading.

I am far from an i-pod expert as I don't use one but my son does. I helped him get set up on my laptop using the i-tunes software and we both got frustrated when he wanted to transport songs/files to his desktop in his room (he has no internet connection). A friend recommended the allofmp3 site for mp3 files instead and we have never gone back to the i-tunes site.

I professionaly use macs everyday. I wish I knew as much about bikes as I do Mac products. you need itunes to manage your iPod. You never have to spend a penny on iTunes Music Store in order to use an iPod. You can rip cds, or buy form any other online music vendor. The iPod will "attach" to one computer only as it's home. This is the only computer you can manage your playlists and song/photo/video database. As I said before this can easily be side stepped with software and/or an external usb/firewire drive.
