I have just bought an 2004 Honda crf450r, and it has water in the oil, as well as oil in the coolant.
So my question is, is it the head gasket or the water pump? Or maybe something else?
Is the crf450r a good bike, or should I just fix it and sell it again?
I haven't been riding in maybe 8-10 years, so got a lot of catching up to do.
Make sure you replace the water pump shaft as well as the seal. It's common for the shaft to wear enough to be slightly undersized and cause premature leaks. It's an easy and inexpensive part to replace.
Sometime in 2012, I got 2003 Honda crf450r; I did not have a problem with it until about two years after I purchased it. The exhaust was always stuffed with thick smoke residue.
I picked up a 2014 model last week, brand new off the showroom floor. Rode it once to break it in and then replaced both engine and transmission oil. Didn't pay much attention to it.
