Just received this response. It seems we may have some support there after all. :)

KTM just signed on to be the first ever Manufacturer to back anti land closure legislation. They (KTM) just signed onto the board of ORBA, the off road business association. It is a lobbying body that just got back from washington after meeting with several extremely high up politicians that are supporting the off road movements. All is not lost!

I don't even live in America, and I still signed it. I sure as hell hope no other state or country considers taking such action. It is disgusting that such a bill could even be considered.

I recently emailed the NJ State Parks and Forestry about a 7mile stretch of abandoned RR bed and a short system of singletrack trails that I have been riding for nearly 25 yrs. It is a quiet spot, not much bike traffic, but it is ridden by locals and their kids. No homes nearby, no new trails being torn through the woods, farmers crops nearby are not touched, just a nice place for a trail ride. Until the POSTED signs were stapled to every tree. I sent a polite letter describing the place and what it has meant to me and others to have access. Here is the reply:

Dear Mr. Butler:

Thank you for your E-mail regarding the posting of the abandoned railroad bed (formerly Trap Rock Industries) near Ledge Road.

The signs posted on this property indicate that ownership now belongs to the State of New Jersey and no motorized vehicles, dumping or alcohol are permitted in these areas. The intent of the posting is to :

1. Inform the public that the State of New Jersey is the new owner.
2. Continue with the adjoining state land permitted uses at Beaver Brook Wildlife Management Area and Paulinskill Valley Trail where motorized vehicles are also prohibited.
3. Encourage more passive recreational activities such as hiking and mountain biking.

I trust this will explain why this property has recently been posted.

Thank you for writing to express your concerns. If I can be of further assistance, do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
(I withheld his name)

I like the part about "encourage" and "more Passive".

Ya know it kinda tickles me a little that all of the Greens out there want to lobby and get bills passed to restrict our sport. (Sorry to all of Canada for this one) What are we supposed to do......Get Dudley Doright and his horse to police our wildlife areas? When I posted on the anti-bill site I mentioned the fact that it would hamper law enforcement abilities in the NJ wilderness. I guess the Greens are just trying to keep their movment going by limiting lawenforcement of poaching and illegal fishing, cutting etc....By removing bikes, ATV's....etc. from state lands.
I know I am not the only DRNer to think of this angle in KY or any other state. To me it seems like idiocy, Ban dirtbikes and ATV access......"Good For US!(The Greens)" now watch bambi and all the nice little critters fill the freezers of every Poacher and survivalist out there......Stupid Greens.......

Sigh......Sombody get me some Tylenol......
