Hi,

Is there a rider weight limit on a 125?

I am asking because I want to teach my brother how to ride. I have 2 125's, he is 240 lbs.

I have always heard that anyone bigger than 165lbshould be on a 250.

What is the skinny on this.

Sincerely,

KingRiz1

The Skinny on the FAT.........

In my opinion, 240lbs is much too heavy for a 125cc machine. He should consider possibly a four stroke as a beginner bike. Probably something like a XR250 or XR 400(consider his weight) or even a YZF250 would be a good bike to begin on. Just my 2 cents....... :)

Yeah if I had a choice I would. I only have 125's. These are my crash and learn bikes. And I dont want to spend too much on a bike just for him to decide he doesnt like riding. Can the shocks and suspension handle is weight?

How about the clutch?

Sincerely,

the bike should hold up fine. there's a guy in my club who's about that big & he smokes people in the a class at hare scrambles on a ratty old 125, just because he can. that whole rider weight/bike size thing is way overrated, imo. it's still riding ability.

DITTO what lawman had to say about the rider/weight overating. I believe it matters a whole lot at the Pro level, however, at the level most of us mortals are at, its all about ability.

The 125 will be fine for him to learn but if he is going to be serious about riding, he will probably have alot more fun on a larger bore bike.

Unless that is a solid 240, a little riding will probably have him at 220 in no time!!:)
