i have been having problems with my cr250. i had the cylinder head off to replace the head gasket and get the head reshaved. i just noticed that when i put my piston to top dead center, i can move it back and forth, just a little bit. i know it is the rings but am not sure when they need replaced. if i slide the corner of a regular sheet of paper down by the rings the piston wont wiggle back and forth.

it's okay, the piston is supposed to have a little clearance between the walls. it is supposed to be extremely small though. a sheet of paper should be okay. if your rings are going bad, you would have a great loss of compression and power.
