How do I tell the difference between a RM250 & RM125?

I am going to look at a 1991 RM250 Tonite to purchase. How do i make sure it is what he says it is? Is there a # on the engine that will tell me if its a 250 or 125? Or is there an easier way just by looking at it? If you can help me out I would really appreciate it! Thank You!

easiest way to tell is look at the pipe.......125 will come out of the head and do a right turn....250 will come out of head and make a left turn first then a right turn... ;)

The kickstart lever on a RM125 is short and stubby. It ends a few inches below the exhaust pipe. The 250 is much longer and actualy goes over the exhaust pipe by a couple of inches. If I recall correctly (my 02 says 249cc on the cylinder), while helping a friend rebuild an 89 RM125, the left side of the cylinder will say the cc's.

i agree with all of these responses. the easiest way i tell the difference is to look at the pipe. if your looking at a photo of the right side of the bike, a 125 pipe will be thin at first but will gradually get fatter, whereas a 250 pipe will be fat at first and gradually get thinner.

the easiest way is to look at the displacement on the side of the cylinder.

The displacement on cylinder is the dead give away.

Look at the cylinder and it's right there in cc. If you're too far away though you might use the other suggestions. :cool:
