How much is to much free sag on a GG

Just bought a 02 GG EC 200 and WOW does it go ( BUT ) the last owner of the bike put a .52 rear spring in it and I think it may be a litttle to stiff for my 180 lb body. I have 100mm sag and 40mm free sag but I can't find anyone who can tell me if thats too much ...

I would run 105mm sag and 35mm free sag.

Im no pro when it comes to suspention
So if I drop the sag to 105 the free sag will drop to 35mm ????
So you think the .52 spring is OK ????

Set the race sag to 105mm. Then measure the static sag. If less than 35mm the spring is to soft. If more than 35mm the spring is to stiff.

If you are at 100 MM race sag and static sag is already 40MM, spring is too stiff for you but not by much. (If you loosen the preload to get 105 MM then static sag will increase more than 40MM) Are you measuring race sag with any gear on? If not then Try it because you are only off by 5MM and the gear may make up the difference.

Ya If you read the last little bit you will see I was only selling 200 because " I have a GREAT deal on a 02 GG 250 . " Which is the bike Im talknig about at this time . 200 is gone ... 250 is in . WOW 50cc makes a BIG diffrence !!!

...ahhh...now I'm confused...are we speaking of the 250 sag numbers or the 200? ...either way, Lew is right, sounds like your spring is too heavy.

this is confusing. shock springs changed rates in '02, with other suspension changes. stock 02 spring on a 200 IS 5.2! different for earlier years( 4.8 and 5.0) which one are you measuring- "stock" spring should be ok for your weight.

Hey Guy's: would one of you be good enough to go back to basics here. Im not sure where to start/go next/which is which /how to measure sags etc. But I bought my 01 GG EC 300 from a short guy that weigh's about 50-60ish lbs more than I do. Im 6' 190 lbs-44 yr's young!! Im the new owner of a 01 EC 300 that I love. I wan't to get the most out of this bike and Im curious as to how to check/make sure that it's set up well for me. Thks Cactusreid

Look HERE for instructions on setting sag. GasGas seems to like a little more sag than most, so I would start at 105mm race sag. Your probably going to be pretty close with the stock spring, but do the measurements to confirm.
