Judge Orders Men Charged With Escape To Watch 'Cool Hand Luke'

AZTEC, N.M. — A judge has ordered two inmates accused of walking away from a work detail to watch "Cool Hand Luke," a movie starring Paul Newman as a prisoner who is killed after repeatedly escaping a chain gang.
Dalet Flores, 29, and Raymond Holguin, 22, were arraigned Monday before state District Judge George Harrison on felony charges of escape in connection with an April 4 incident.
They were patching holes in the road when they walked into the desert — toward a SWAT training exercise being held nearby by area law enforcement officers.
"This was the work release that had the entire SWAT team and dogs training nearby," Harrison commented.
"I think we'll have everybody (at the jail) watch ¹Cool Hand Luke' this week," he said.
Flores had only one more day behind bars before he fled the work detail, his attorney, Cosme Ripol, told the judge.
Holguin admitted trying to escape. "I just walked away," he said.
Flores was serving seven days for driving on a suspended license and having no insurance. Holguin had served 60 days of 131-day sentence for probation violations.
Both men now face up to five years in prison if convicted of escape.

To quote Lester Maddox, "what our state needs is a better class of prisoner". Of course if the Judge really wanted to punish them he should have made them watch "Eyes wide shut". now that's painful. :uh:

Yeah, that's what I meant. I certainly don't want to compare "stupid things I've done" stories. I would win if I could remember back that far (yesterday). ;)

Although I was having fun pickin on VD the picture I posted was my reaction to the original title of this thread, "how stupid can you get"?

I am all for physical fittness---but the parents of the kid pictured should be looked at very closely. :|

For that young of a kid to be that buff means he is pumping iron.

& IMHO is stupid parenting!
