i got a 74 suzuki ts250 2 stroke. i want more power, enough to keep it from bogging in mud. is there aftermarket parts for something this old. how much would i benefit with different sprockets. i am looking for more low end grunt.
can i put a fatty pipe from a different suzuki and also use jet kits on this too. i also want to put a bigger rear sprocket on it to get better low end. that is all i want. it is not a jumper for sure but i just want some take off power. the exhaust attatches by springs on this bike. also how much could i gain by porting the head. this motor is listed at 23 hp. i need some advice.
whats the present condition of the motor? when was the last time the top end was rebuilt? is it running good? if its old and tired go fix it then worry about performance.
Put in a big bore to 4th over, get Eric Gorr to bottom to mid port the bike, boysen power reeds, shorten the pipe 20mms near the first bend at the bottom, and the gear it down in the front and up in the back. Also, you can bore the carb and put in a new filter.
i don't know if this thing has reeds. i was told that fatty pipes work only with bikes with reeds. it has been rebuilt i was told and it looks like it has. i know the gas tank is rusty inside and some of the particles are getting to the carb as sometimes it starts cutting out. it runs pretty good. i just rode it and had fun but i think i just need to put a bigger sprocket on it
I had a 74 ts 250, liked it a lot, mine was stock other then forks shocks and wheels and gearing. I parted out a 74 yamaha mx 250 and used the suspension and wheels on my TS, dont remember what all was involved but the better shocks and larger rear sprocket helped.
Nope, no reeds. Fresh top end with a port and polish job with a tuned pipe and lower gearing. Of course, as much as all that will cost, you could just go out and buy a 70's RM250 and just go ride it.
An Rm250 pipe probably wouldn't fit, they're routed over the head and through the frame, not hanging off the side like your stock one. A TM250 low pipe could probably be adapted pretty easy, but you'll lose ground clearance. I think Circle F makes a pipe for a TM250.
