First, you need one of these
http://www.pbase.com/image/13219767/medium.jpg

Then, of course, you need a Canuck and a small mixing container
http://www.pbase.com/image/13221791/medium.jpg

Add ice, fruit punch and some orange juice
http://www.pbase.com/image/13222306/medium.jpg

Some vodka

Then you must plug in the power source

Add a cute blonde bartender

And let her rip!!

Great post, CSL! And pictures can do no justice to when they hooked up a KTM 525 and ran it up to 4th gear.... pinned.

Now... that was impressive. :scream: - rb

HEY KOKANEE!!!

I'm having the Mega Blender thing fabricated. The machinest who's giving me a bid wanted me to ask you what the height was to the table section from the ground to get an idea on dimensions. Thanks! You can email me at [email protected] or post it here if you would please!

Sorry to post this here, but I don't know your email and you don't have PM capability yet!

Hey Natalie,

I'm gonna guess that thing was about 18" high. Given the Canadian exchange rate, that's about 2cm.

Woops? Or would that be 6000 cm...

Natalie,

The first thing you need to do is get a 90 degree gear drive. I would get the drive first and build the frame around it. We got ours out of a pto driven auger that i got at a scrapyard. (1 to 1.5 gear ratio) You have to build your frame according to the shaft length on the gear drive. Our main frame is about 26" X 50" (THATS INCHES NOT METRIC) The frame that supports the jug is about 16" high. The most difficult task is making the junction in the blender jug. We used a 10 gallon gatorade jug with a water pump out of a rear wheel drive datsun for our junction.Next we welded a lawnmower blade to the top side of it in place of the drive pully. Then on the oppisite side(block side) we welded a standard lugnut. On the upright shaft of the gear drive we welded a 13/16 sparkplug socket (6 point) We also sandwiched aluminum plates on the bottom of the jug for strength. The other end of the gear drive is directly attached to the rollers via a drive shaft. The rollers were out of an old wringer washer sheathed in exhaust pipe (1 7/8 id) The bearings that support the rollers are standard high speed pillow block(5/8 id) If you are seriously interested perhaps I can build another one for you. If you are going to come up to the ride in Canada on July 4 weekend you could pick it up then. Or I could ship it down to you. Get a price from your machinist and I will see what I can do.If you need anymore info let me know.

Damn I knew we should of put a patent on this Keith

Kokanee, YOU'RE AWESOME!  Thanks for the specs and info!  Let me see what he comes up with and if its out of my league I might hit you up on the offer.  He didn't seem to think he'd have trouble finding any of the parts, I'm going to print off your post to go along with CSL's pics and see if that helps him.  Thank you very much for your help here.  I might have a few more questions as we go along!:yeehaw:  Yum! Slushies!

Kokanee, what is your going rate?  I need to have one of those too.  I may try it myself but depending on how much and how complicated it is, I may order one . . . you said you could put together a parts list and spec sheet for me sometime?

Questions:

-Does the gearbox ratio matter?  What would be some other possible donors?
-What did you use for drive shafts, or did you have them made?
-How did you seal the bottom of the jug?
-How is the water pump lubricated?  If it's not, what keeps it from blowing up?  Additives in antifreeze act as lubricant for normal water pumps, right?

Does this contraption have an official name, anyway?

Its just called the Kokanee Bushriders Blender (KBB for short)

As far as a gearbox goes you would definatly want to gear it down if anything. It goes more than fast enough with the 1 to 1.5 gear ratio. We calculated that for every rotation of the bikes rear wheel the blades spin 21 times in the jug, and that is slighly gearing it down. The size of the rollers greatly affect the gear ratio(ours are about 2" in diameter) If you look in scrapyards or at an industrial supply store you should be able to find a gear drive. Even a high speed drive from an electric motor could work. Just be sure that the spider and pinion gears are substantial. Our gear box is sealed and lubricated with grease, an oil lubricated gear box would be the best bet.The drive shaft we made from a small diameter pipe with no u-joint. if you shim the gear drive to the rollers and get everything level you dont need one. The bottom of the jug is sealed with a tremco 830 industrial sealent that you can find at rv dealers. If you read my previous post there is a parts list with measurements. As far as the water pump is concerned the antifreeze only lubricates the impeller which in turn pumps the coolant throughout the engine. There is a sealed bearing in the pump housing itself which the shaft spins on. It would probably be difficult for me to build another blender because of part availibilty and my busy work week. On the weekend we are riding now.(just track but better than nothing) I am going to try to make it down to Colville for fathers day and we will be bringing the blender. I can explain how everything is construted and you can take some pictures of it.
