Hey everyone...new member from Cowtown here. Been riding street bikes for a few years but finally got the jam to get dirty. :cool:

I've been doing maintenance on my street bike for awhile now so I know what's involved there...but how about 2-strokes? What needs to be done on those, and how often?

Anyways I'm in the market for a KDX or YZ426, so's if anyone local knows of one for sale, gimme a ping!

I've lived in Calgary for about 8 years and I must say that the weather sucks. :uh:

Calgary has it's good points.....the Rockies nearby and...... well, if I remember more, I'll post again.. :laugh:

Welcome to DRN.
2-strokes have a power valve that needs to be cleaned now and then, depending on the model, how you ride, the type of oil you use and how well you jet it. Not to worry its easy and not needed very often.

Been to calgary a few times...what a place. I don't know what it is that attracts me to it.

Thanks. I see a lot of references to 'new top end' on 2-strokes, is this the cam/valves needing more maintenance than 4-strokes?

two strokes don't have cams and valves, as a rule. I'm sure someone can come up with an exception (besides the obvious Detroit Diesel "Screamin' Jimmies"), but I can't think of any in the dirt bike world.

Welcome to DRN. All I have to say is that atleast you're in Calgary and not Edmonton. Edmonton's even worse for weather (COLD!).
