Hi all,
I'm new to the list, husband Randy(eticket)signed me up, have been lurking a bit before actually getting involved with the group. I ride a BBR200, just got it this past summer, had a BBR120 prior to that and an XR200 was my first dirtbike. Have been riding off and on for about 4 years... trying like crazy to get some air under my tires...finally did it!!! We've gone to an indoor arenacross 3 times now, is the absoute perfect place to practice everything, from tight turns to jumps. The first time we went I was so freaked I forgot I even had a rear brake... crashed a lot that time. :-)
But was able after some time and relaxing and plenty of friendly advice from friends to start going around better & do some small jumps. Then comes up a small double that every time around I jump the first hill, land hard on the face of the 2nd, wham, bounce, recover, go around and do it again. Know there has to be a better way! So watched the other riders in an off session, they were going faster for one thing, next time up I came around that section, put it in 4th gear-figured it couldn't be any worse than smashing into the face like I'd been doing, went straight at it and flew over the top and landed gentle as you please on the down side of the second bump - Yippee!
Am going on the Moon Rocks ride this next weekend, will be interesting to see how my new skills translate, and to meet a bunch of new riders. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Hey Susan,

That's killer to hear! Congratulations. Hopefully I can do a double this year. That is the plan, anyway, if my knee behaves.

Susan, thats great!! There is nothing like the feeling you get landing a double perfect. Its addicting. Now thats probably all your thinking about, going out and doing it again, on bigger jumps:p

Please..please! Susan does NOT need any encouragement in this department!! (big grin) My biggestp problem is trying to keeped her reined in... that and reminding her about those pesky physics laws. You know, an object in motion - tends to stay in motion - until it meets the object that is not in motion at all.

Just got back from lunch. Found out that Nick the Parts Guy at Hillsboro Honda cased one of the triples, broke his fibula/tibula, and then his bike zipped off the track and took one of the roller garage doors right off it's track.

ow-owowowowowoow..... Nick's going to be okay - he's already in a cast - no surgery needed.

But a good reminder to all. Only fly as high as you're comfortable with falling from.

As to Susan's new-found confidence? It was probably watching Pete Treadwell from BBR and his buddies (they had 5 BBR-150s there yesterday) getting serious air over the tabletop.

All in all, we had a great time.

Looking forward to RENO RIDING!! -- E-Ticket

E-ticket, I understand how you feel about Susan's "double". So I won't try to encourage her, but let me just say "Susan, you are GREAT!"

By the way, where is this indoor arenacross? Is it in Portland?
Do you guys ride around Bend?

We live in the Sellwood district in Portland, OR. We're only 45 min from really great riding up in the Pacific Coast Range near the Tillamook Forest.

But while town is dry - the foothills are snowed in pretty good. So unless you're incredibly skilled.... or just a loony..... riding is pretty scarce right now.

Which is why we been going to the Woodland Indoor Arena for practice days. It's a small motocross course set up in a warehouse. Fairly small arena but still a lot of fun. And no cleanup on the bikes! Susan's been enjoying the heck out of it because she get's to go round-n-round and practice corners and jumps over-n-over.

The arena is up in Woodland, WA about 32 miles from our house. Real handy. Here's their website: http://www.321motox.com/

We do get over to Bend occasionally to go riding. It's a 3 hour drive and can be quite dusty in summer -- but we still always have a ball!

Cheers! - RandyB

Isn't it funny how hard the landings can be when you almost clear those jumps? There is a step up at my local track and no matter how fast I hit it, I never quite cleared it. My friends would say hit it in 3rd so I did and would case. I hit it in 4th and same thing. Finally a girl said just follow me and I guaranty you'll make it, I followed and sure enough she cleared but I didn't. Then I got my new bike, the one with suspension that was set up for my weight and not someone 50lbs heavier than me. I head to the track and figure "why not give it another shot?" I hit it in 4th and flew right over and landed on the down side, the smoothest landing I've ever had. Heck, I can clear it in 2nd now.

The hard part for me is to know just how hard & fast I have to hit a jump for the 1st time to clear it without over jumping. I can't wait until I learn how to do that.

Congratulations on your achievement Susan, I think E-Ticket is jealous.;)

Randy, it's great to see you so almost-supportive, even if you're about to get your butt kicked ;) (well done Susan, I'm jealous).

Firecracker, I still have memories (bad) of my first attempt at a double and watching the next bike to run into me - and over (actually, it wasn't that bad, funny as hell at the time, but embarrassing afterwards lol) - and that was just the kiddie's track hehehe

I don't know how you girls find the balls to do these jumps, are any for sale & where can I buy them?

doubles

Hi Susan. Way to go! You beat me by two days! I did my first double on sunday. The first time I wasn't going quite fast enough and nearly leapfrogged over my handlebars when I landed. I did it another 5 or 6 times and again on Monday. What helped me is a friend who also just started doubling rode in front of me so I'd have an idea of the speed I'd need to clear it. I've been riding a 2002 YZ125 since October and an XR200 before that. I race in the novice category here in Cozumel, Cancun and Playa del Carmen and our tracks are mostly supercross style. cheers, Liz
