I think my water pump failed?

Went riding with my buddy today in Rampart. Stopped and noticed my engine was covered with coolant and the radiator and cap were very cool but looked as though I lost most of my coolant. Has any one else had a water pump go down on them. I have an overflow tube running from under the cap, no fluid came from there. All the coolant was coming from a tube located right above my kickstart on my engine. So like I said, I think I lost my water pump, any other ideas by chance. And how would I check to make sure it is the water pump?

Perhaps you just need a new radiator hose..

I agree with Cam Mitchell. Your bike is old and and the hoses are old. Once of them probably deterioted alittle where it clamps onto the engine. So... just replace all the hoses and hose clamps.

JW ...If you decide to replace all the hoses, probably a good idea, take them to an auto parts store and you can probably match-up most of them for much less than from any MC shop. You also might check at an import car specialty shop to find out who keeps the best stock of hoses. :thumb:

Did you get your forks fixed?

I have to agree with the above two posts. Hose's wear out due to the pressure and because of the nature of (oil based) antifreeze. Your Hoses(sp) will break down! Check your hoses this way, while running, squeese the hoses under pressure if they are feeling soft: REPLACE! Hard: A O-K!

Hey thanks guys, I am going through the whole system and going to replace seals, gaskets, and hoses as it is needed. The hoses are really soft so those are going to get replaced.
KTM-LEW, my dad and I got the forks all cleaned up and filled to proper levels. They worked great until this happened. The bad thing about the forks was there was 2-3 oz of oil in the right fork and very thin. The left was dirty, gunky, and at the wrong levels. But now it soaks up everything great. Now if I can just get the darn bike to stop breaking down after every ride I will be fine. Thanks again guys I will let you know how it all goes. Cheers
