That should be a great bike, the XR line in general has been known for bikes that last a long time. You should have years of trouble free use.

5'9" is pretty tall for the xr100. My daughter is comfortable on the xr100 and she's only about 5 feet tall. You can still have fun on it, I have a blast riding it but I think if it were my only bike I would be way cramped. At 5-9 you can just about fit on any bike. I would check out one a little bigger just to be sure.

The XR's are a great line of bikes. Have you seen a crf150?

Im comprable to your size and I ride the xr 100, its lots of fun,and a great bike, but is gettign alittle small for me, however if your just getting started it might be easier to learn on somthing smaller. I am also looking at getting that crf 150 soon.

The 100 is a great trail bike. But your height might make it awkward.Go and sit on the 100.Also sit on the 150.Your feet should be flat and your legs straight. The 150 is basically an XR with fancy plastic so it's just as reliable. You might want to go used if the bike is in good shape. If you don't know what that means go for one that's a couple of years old.Finding a 150 will be harder.Since it's a newer model. If you go for the 100 they do have a good resale. You should be able to find a newer one for 1500.You might also consider a used XR 200.Sit on one of those if you can find one. They were shortened in 93 till dicontinued last year.

I suggest you consider a used XR200 as your first bike, given your size, age and experience. The XR100 is a fine bike, but you will be too large for it after your first couple intro rides. I started my son on the 100 - he was 12 and had never ridden anything, but he was already on the outer envelope for size/weight to do any real riding on it.

And there's no need to buy new unless you simply can't find a decent used one, like 2 to 3 years old.

I have triplet boys that are 11 yrs old, 4'10" to 4'11" 70 to 75lbs. The xr100 is perfect for them size and power, I wish I had 2 more. I hope it will fit them for 2 years. When they out grow it I will be quick to up grade to another bike that fits. There is no sence in trashing a bike by riding one that you are to big for. You are older, much taller and heavier. I think a xr200 2 or 3 years old would be a great way to go. It has a lower seat height, it's been around for years, very reliable. Good luck.
