From one of the organizers of this event......
I sincerely hope you will do your best to
encourage members of your organizations and fellow
public land users to attend this rally, for some very
good reasons:
1. We were INVITED by local merchants to come back
and make our point after the office was officially
opened. We are well supported in the community.
2. Media contact. The Orange County Register and the
Riverside Press Enterprise will be covering this
event, as well as many smaller local newspapers. I am
also working on getting local TV coverage and feel
confident in the outcome. It's great that WE all
spread the word to the off-roaders, backpackers, rock
hounds, etc., but they aren't the ones we have to
convince. The media will help with the rest.
3. Unification. Simply put, WE WILL FAIL unless we
all show a united front. The public will be more
impressed if many diverse groups band together against
one foe. It's the old "that many people can't be
wrong" concept.
4. This location is just right. Public enough to
draw attention, private enough to do it safely.
5. I don't want to be the only one talking to
reporters that day. I want to be able to point them
toward representatives from each organization, even if
it's only a line or two from each source. This rally
is not about egos; it's about public recognition of
the theft of public lands from the hands of those who
rely on them. Having even a few people from each
organization is the only way we will make the point
that we are ALL in this together.
