OK I am installing a new crank in my bike, is it easier to install the bearings in the cases first or put them on the crank and then install it that way. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

put the bearings in first. put them in your freezer for a couple hours if you dont have a bearing press, then heat up the lip of the case to expand it with a propane torch. should pop in like butter. then take a socket or something of the same diameter of the inner race of the bearing and heat that up with the torch, oh and put your crank in the freezer first as well. the cold crank should slide through fairly easy, just make sure you have all your gears ready to assemble so you can pop on the other side of the case while the crank is still cold.

re your email, the idea with the socket it to heat only the inner race of the bearing. heat the socket= heating the inner race.
