Hey ya'll i'm new to the site not to rideing i used to ride alot mx when i was younger. Getting back into rideing it has been year's and i got older and alot heavier. I am 5'8" 275 i have a 2000 YZ 125 that my lil brother gave to me i have to do a top end on it. What i want to know is,if it is enough bike for me to start on i'm going to just ride woods and trails i could change sprockets and things no problem but do u think it is enough or just to small i hate to invest alot of money if i don't stick with it if i do well i'll get a new bike. Well, That's a lot of weight for a 125. It will get you from point A to point B but not without complaining. Gearing it down will help and I say go ahead and do some trail riding with it to get that "feeling" back. If you get going too fast or doing jumps you'll find that you will need stiffer springs in the fork and shock (same with any bike you might buy).

When I got back into riding about 20 years ago I bought a RT 180 and it was pretty lame but it was my cheap entry back into the world of bikes. After I broke the frame 3 times I got a real bike and have been riding ever since. Have fun!

Like I said, go ahead and ride it. You can't go wrong with a free bike. Do the top end, ride it and you'll be hooked all over again :)

I would go ahead and fix the 125 and get back into the sport with it. When you start climbing steep hills and working your way over tree roots and other obstacles you will probably want to have a more powerful bike, but the 125 will be great to re-learn the basic skills on.

Unless the bike is totally thrashed it should be well worth fixing. Fix it, ride it until you feel the need for more power and then sell it.
