Milk, will you still enjoy golf when Draper Lake Trails become a golf course? Just another riding area gone. FMX is interesting but is more of show than a competition. I can't/don't want to try. I ride for the fun, sometimes I get injured but it is not the norm. The only "trick" I would like to do is a whip. If I do it and no one see's it, oh well, who cares!

Good comparrison Pat, and it should be called Freestyle Moto Jumps or the likes, ain't no MX in this sport - there is more MX in Bee-MX

poser, um, very few people can actually ride a pro-level sx track and do all the jumps and combos. Sure, FMX does take some skill, and huge balls, but other than that, it's not much. It's a judged show, just like WWF, and even your hero, the Mulisha leader said so (September issue of TWMX). The only people that can actually do all the jumps and combos on an SX track are RC and Windham (when he's healthy), all the other people in the world can rarely go fast enough to hit the biggest, most technical (but fastest) lines. I bet you almost all the pro mxers could go and hit the jumps at an FMX competition. All they do is pin the throttle. Very few of them can actually corner with any kind of speed, only ones that have raced in earlier years. That said, I still respect Mike Metzger, not because of his FMX abilities, but because he is an awesome rider, have you seen him on a trials bike or riding offroad, he's pretty darn good, and could possibly win some GNCCs or the like with some practice. Nice try, POSER, but FMX isn't anywhere near as amazing as what you claim. FMX attracts teens, but not much else, because everyone knows that MX takes skill and conditioning, not just big balls.
-on a side not, FMX and BMX aren't even close. BMX has comps with tricks, but they also race (downhill BMX is SWEET).

Poser your statements about the money is COMPLETLY off, Same reason DMC pretty much flipped LXD off for watching fellow riders getting paid 175 BUCKS TO QUALIFY FOR X!!!

"English translation"
Drake McElroy left the x-games qualifier after LXD the promoter was paying the athletes 175 bucks :D

Now x-games is pretty much the US open equlivalent to FMX, anyone know what a last place gets for purse money on the final heat? A LOT more than 175 bucks LOL!!

Now poser, I aint going to argue with here, because I "attempt" freestyle but I am a hardcore racer.

It took me A LONG time just to learn 2 or 3 simple tricks like coffin's, healclikers and small cliff hangers.

I respect both, but it took YEARS AND YEARS and im still not close to learing all the different skills of tracks, ie.whoops, step down's, and all the other million obsticals out there.

Now if you ever hit a ramp, I don't know if you have, you will know it's smooth as butter, and constant EVERY time.

Not the case with dirt, I figure ill just stop here, I have PERSONALLY spoke with professional FMXers like chuck carothers, DMC, Derek Burlew etc.....

And everyone says if they never raced they couldn't do what they do, they know they don't have the skill on the track of a racer, but they also know they have more skill on ramps.

It's a different ballgame poser, way different. But I have yet to meet or talk to a FMXer that has said, they didn't quit racing because

a. it was no fun to them anymore
b. they couldn't be competitve anymore
c. they wanted to try something new

In closing, the skill to master many obsticles on a track and go fast and do it for 10 laps can't compare to riding in a straight line and hitting a ramp.

I thought Metzger was a jerk since I saw him shoot a snot rocket into the face of another guy on one of the videos. He woulda needed many months to recover from the whupping I'da given him would he have done that to me. A true no-class punk. And what is the deal with the "Metal Mulisha"? Grow up. little girls!

Tattoos, piecings and messed up hairstyles are not what I want my kid to pattern his life after. I know that it's individuality at it's finest, but when you paint yourself up like a clown, you get treated like a clown.

Pastrana, DeCoster and the whole Suzuki bunch is what I'd rather have my kid mimic. No clown outfits and just good guys in general being managed by the Man, DeCoster. Too bad they don't ride red!

Of course I will still enjoy it. I wont ever golf on that course, but Ill still play. Ive been doing it since I was 14 and Im pretty good at it and I have fun. It does piss me off that they wanna take over Draper and I signed that petition and Okie DirtRiders sent me that package to send the letter. Its unfortunate that the dumb city thinks we need a 87949879 city course, but it doesnt change my attitude on the whole game.

No offence, Milk. Just an obvious question considering your proximity to Draper.

None taken. :)

I think its crappy that they want to close it down. There are so many spots here to build another golf course, but they really dont need to anyway. Many of the city courses here arent played that much anyway. They should concentrate on those, not build new ones.

Wave that kinda' green and watch mine grow before your eyes! If somebody pulls together $500,000 USD and brings it to DW in a suitcase I'd jump a shark tank on a Z50 while blindfolded. :yeehaw:

FMX is nothing more than a side show. I'll watch it instead of The Flying Nun but not before The Dukes of Hazard (heck it's pretty much the same thing except no Daisy).

One thing I did notice about the x-games fmx competition was that all of the riders just kinda coast through the turns. Like they just havent learned to turn or something.

Thats why TP is my favorite fmx rider. He does all the tricks everyone else does, but he just flies through the berms.

I was getting kinda bored with that competition too. Everyone does the same tricks, over and over. The backflip was cool though.

In reference to Austin Powers. Don't tell me you haven't seen it.

Great post poser!!

I guess people her do not want to hear that their sport is not the most challenging sport in dirt bikes.

Does fmx take more skills than mx-sx? FMX takes different skills alright. Could all fmx riders do one lap on an sx-mx course and do all the doubles and triples? I would think so.

Could all the sx-mx riders do all the jumps in fmx? I would think so.

Is fmx a circus? SX definely is.

Is fmx not a sport because it is judged? Well...it is a judged sport.

Is sx-mx boring to watch.......When the same rider wins every race and no one is racing him after the first turn.....it is boring to me.

Which sport takes the most skill? I think the only person who could answer that is someone who has been a champion in both sports. Maybe TP is the only rider that can truely answer this question.

Not true.

BTW, I have heard many of the FMX guys who used to be racers comment how they got into FMX b/c it allowed them to have more time to do what they want b/c they had to train harder for SX and MX.

The bottom line is that you like what you like. Great.

More people (according to ratings and attendance) watch MX and SX but that only means that the sport of MX and SX is more popular. It doesn't mean anything about the demands of the sport.

What Metzger did with the 2 backflips is cool. I appreciate the skill it takes for him to do it. However, after watching the backflip at the GG I wasn't really impressed when he did it at the X-games but I do get impressed when RC blows up a berm each and every lap!

Unfortunately, for every skilled FMX rider there are 10 wannabe's out there that have not talent, only can jump a little and are pains in the rump. They are almost worse for the sport than the renegade ATV riders with no helmets who trespass constantly.
