It's Getting to be That Time Again...

DirtWeek draws near for the third year for me. I am already starting to get the butterflies! The DW'02 forum is abuzz with activity, plans are being made, travel arrangements are getting finalized. Man, this is like the last days of the school year when we were youngins. That great feeling of three months of summer vacation coming soon. It never seemed to get here fast enough. Every time I log on (yeah, right, as if I ever log OFF!) I save that DW forum for last now. Kind of like dessert. Never quite knowing what developments have appeared since my last visit. Never knowing just which new sponsor will have stepped up, or which pro may be showing up to hang with us mere mortals. This is truly a magical time and I for one am very excited to be a part of it again. :aj:

The bad part is, once it's over, and we have to leave and return to the real world, depression sets in. If only I could win the lottery with enough money to set up a permanent DW somewhere. A place where people could come and be nice to everyone and be selfless. I'd have regularly scheduled pro riders coming in for classes. We'd have the "Eternal Bombfire" every night for benchracing. Oh, the possibilities...

Here's a different perspective. Although I am looking forward to the event the fact that it has arrived is depressing as it means the season for riding here in MI is about done. So when Dirtweek 02 arrives it will be like the "Grand Finali" of the season and we will make the trip back and maybe get to ride a ccouple more times before it snows. :(

Although I know it will be fun I am not in a hurry for it to get here....but plan to have fun when Oct 1 arrives.

Lou, you are cracking me up with all your enthusiasm! Dirtweek Forum as Dessert analogy!! LMAO!

You know, it's your enthusiams and the enthusiasm of the other DW veterans that are going to make it all that much better for us first timers. I can't wait either!

FredT - yes, those of us from the upper states do have a mixed bag of emotions in October.

The weather is perfect, the air is crisp, and the humidity is lower. I love riding in October. The leaves are falling and it is just all round beautiful. After every ride, it feels like the end. You never know if the weather will cooperate for yet another day. It's a pit in the stomach, I just lost something important feeling. Strangely enough, I cherish it. I have lived another year, and have some great memories to relive sitting in front of the fire on a cold winter night. This year I am especially looking forward to the memories of Dirt Week - '02. I have butterflies like Lou, but mine are the kind you get when you are going to come rolling in alone. Not knowing what to expect, yet knowing that, even though you have never met any of these people in person, you know so many of them already. It reminds me of when I went to college. It was a very scary time. Luckily, I am much older now, and have been thrown into improvish, stranger on stranger situations enough times, I can manage. I cant wait! :)

Oh, yeah, and that's also the time of year I get my snowmobile ready for winter......... :p :)

I'm kinda of like Fred T in that I look at DW like the grand finale of the year, I don't think I rode after it last year? (all those summer projects around the house have to get done before winter :( ....

This is the time of year that I start to really panic about the event, everything is supposed to start coming together at this point, details worked-out, etc., it never seems like we'll be able to pull it off, somehow we do though. Getting everyone involved squared-away (sponsors, other suppliers/companies) seems to take forever. Everyone wants to wait until the last minute to comfirm (including attendees), somehow, by the week prior, it's always fallen into place.

Yup, DW is a very cool thing. When we're there and everyone is set-up... tents/campers all over the place, people riding, hanging-out and having a good time, I like to just look around for a little while. I go somewhere where I can see it all and just watch for a while. It's an incredible feeling to be involved in something like DW. I know there are a lot of good people in the world and I know where 300-400 of them will be the first week of October.

Get me a kleenex, man I GOTTA make this one! If I can pull this one off, the sky's the limit my friends.:D The only difference with us out here is that October lets us know that riding time has come upon us and that top end job better be finished or we'll miss out.

Elk, are you thinking you're going to make it after all? What gives? Do I have to start scheming again?

I basically don't acknowledge any DW post or forum. Denial is the best medicine. :(

This will be # 3 for me as well. I started planning for this DW the day I arrived at DW'01. Right now, I'm broke as I can be and will have to take a week off without pay to attend, but I'm not missing it for anything! Dirtweek is THE one dirtbike event that I know will be mind blowing and I know I will be there. I can't say THANKS enough to Okie, the mods, sponsors, and others involved for making these events happen! The past two have been AWESOME and I know this year will be even better. I can't wait for DW'02! Heck...I can't wait for DW'03!! :aj:

11 weeks to go :) 10.5 for the early birds.

On the way home from DW01, Mini127 and I said heck ya, 800 miles to OK, no problem, it'll be worth it.

Im already planning on bike stuff, like new graphics, chain and sprokets, an extra air filter all oiled up in a bag, the list goes on and on.

SMB, make it an economy vacation, camp, lots of hot dogs, peanut
butter and jelly. But make it somehow, you wont be sorry.

I made it an economy vacation last year when I went to DW, slept in a borrowed tent from SPD, who basically kept me alive the whole 3 days I was there ;) I'm really trying to get lined up in another job so I can ask for time off and have some cash, where there's a will there's a way right?

I've got a deal cooking that could really make DW02 even more fun. If all the planets align correctly, I'll be riding into town on a tricked out (equal to my 250F in the aftermarket parts) CR450F. Don't even ask how much.... if you thought the deal I got on the BabyF was too good to believe, this one will really floor you!

I've got every digit and appendage crossed hoping that this deal goes through. I need a bit more time on the 450 to make sure it really works for me but I think it's a bike I could live with.

Ever had slow roasted Elk? I will (hopefully) be providing instant ROOSTED and BRUISED Elk! :p :moon:

Okie, we will get it done, I assure you of that. Fortunately I will be able to be a bit more of a help this year w/o the biotch always complaining that I spend too much time here. Monday I will contact all of the sponsors that I have already contacted and give them DW developments. Hopefully they will get off the toilet.

Yeah Lou, I am big time amped! and ready to go!

Hey Fred, at least you get to ride over the summer!

To help make up for all the missed riding opportunities, and get an early start on our riding season here in MI, I'm thinking about a roadtrip down to Arkansas around Feb-Mar next winter. I've read quite a few posts from JEB (from MN I think) who has gone down to AK a few times now around February for a mid-winter fix.

Check out http://pws.chartermi.net/~jejb/Wudi4/wudi4.html when you get a chance. Looks like it would be a great TrailFest to cure the mid-winter withdrawls! :aj:
