JR50 Oil Pump Assembly

Putting an oil starved (suspected) JR50 back together and want to make sure it doesn't do this again (cook the piston). I pulled the pump apart last night and it looked okay. Got to thinking that it might have been put together wrong last time. The bottom side of the cover plate acts as a cam and if that cover plate got turned around, the thing wouldn't pump right. Anyone have any idea which way it is supposed to go on???

One other thing. I noticed that the cap to the oil reservoir doesn't have a breather hole. When it is screwed on, I can't even pour the oil out. Seems that this could keep the pump from getting adequate oil to lube the crankcase. Does anyone know if the reservoir cap is supposed to have a tiny little breather hole? Sure seems that it should.

Mine does indeed have a breather hole in it, as well as a funnel shaped grommet under the cap with a hole in the bottom. (kinda like a round rubber baffle to keep oil away from the cap)

Dunno nuttin bout no cover plates.
