Shock Options
I've been looking for some ways to do this and/or replace the shock without having to drop $300...
I see numerous posts about drilling a new shock mount 1" lower on the frame resulting in a 4" lift. I just don't get where they are drilling the frame. There is a box section where the shock currently mounts. If you go down the frame 1" you're out of that boxed section and staight across the frame tubes. Just doesn't look like a solid place to mount to me. Maybe I'm just not understanding where they drilled the new holes? I have not seen any pictures of this done.
There is a $20 part called the X-Tender that gives the same 4" rear lift. This is basically just a threaded piece that goes in between the shock rod and shock eye, effectively makeing the shock length an ~1" longer.
The best option, since the stock shock sucks anyway would be a better shock replacement. There is the ~$300 Works shock , but I think that's real close to the stock length of 10.75". and it's $300 on a $1000 bike
I was in Northern Tools and saw a baja Motorsports Dirt Runner with a decent MX shock...and started thinking that could be a cheap replacement but I haven't been able to find any place that sells parts for the Chinese dirt bikes, a few for atv parts, but not the MX bikes. :bang: I bet you could pick one of those up for around $100. If you can find the parts.
I've tried looking through shock specs for the big 4 and nothing is really close to that 10.75-11.75" range. I was hoping to find something similar there and pick up a parted out piece from eBay.
There are replacement fork and shock springs for $80-100 set. Apparently the ttr-90 stuff will work but I have not done it personally.
Forks, can be filled higher with 15wt oil and preload spacers added to give some extra front height and stiffen it up a bit.
I saw a post about replacing with YZ80/85 forks that said the only mod needed was the axle hubs drilled out.
If anyone has any other info let us know!
