Personally, i could go either way on this debate.

I like the holiday season because first off, food is never as good as on Thanksgiving. Second, i like it because it holds alot of memories and happy times. Third, I LOVE GETTING BIKE PARTS!!!

Now...

I hate the holiday season, because all that food is probably not good for a man trying to lose a lil' weight. Second, I hate cleaning up after all the guests! Third, I have spending money on other people when I could use that money to buy myself bike parts!!! (yes, i'm very selfish!)

Senior KX Rider hit the nail on the head. The holidays are about the only quality time I get to spend with the family anymore, due to working all the time. And I guess you could give thanxs for being alive or peace for the day. Unless those 2 things suck as well:eek:

Sounds to me like you guys have a different situation than I do. I love all of my relatives but having to spend time with them? :scream:

i can certainly understand that. on the rare occasions when my side of the family gets together (usually just weddings and funerals), i am often introduced as the "normal" one. i spend much more time with my wife's family.

Hey Ken,
I thought Jim Cary was the Grinch:D I think the whole holiday thing is over done, and that turns a lot of people off to them. After all, If it is supposed to be a church thing, then why do we end up spending so much on gifts, and only a third of the people even go to church?
My family seems to grow further apart each year, we still all get together, but as we get older, each of us seems to be more conserned about our own familys and our own little world, and less tolerant of the others personality quirks.
Then theres my wifes family, we all give big hugs, have a good time, not up tight about anything, and enjoy the holidays.
For me personaly, Its the winter months that get me bummed, Ive got a count down to April 1st. Time to get out side, go riding, work in the yard, go riding.....

Whadaya say we not park the bikes, but plan a mid winter bike trip to a warmer place for a long week end?

As many of us know Christ wasn't even born on Christmas (not possible).

Walt, as far as riding goes I'm looking forward to riding with you guys next year. Rob and I both enjoyed riding out at Wardys place with you guys a few weeks ago. Next year will be COOL.

KXKen, I feel like I shouldnt even engage your comment, but how do you "know" so much about the possibilities of when Christ was born?

How did you arrive at such a ludicris statement?

The only thing I don't like about the holidays is it puts me in a hole moneywise. I hate shopping unless I can get in & out and that doesn't always happen.

I like the magic on my childrens' faces on Christmas morning (we do it twice, 12-25 & 1-7 for Russian Christmas.) Having 2 Christmas' instead of one breaks up the stress and hectic pace considerably.

I hate putting stickers on the toys. But I do like the toys. I get pissed thinking about how all the toys take batteries when they could supply you w/ a powerpack or re-charger for most of them. I think there is some kind of conspiracy going on there.

My son is 5 and he'll yell in to me from the tv room, 'Dad, can you get me that?' I always tell him I'm gonna buy him 2. He hasn't caught on yet.

I like spending it with my family and am truly greatful for the people that have been put in my life. I guess that's a good enough reason to like the holidays. Couldn't ask for anything more. By the way, I hope everyone has a great and safe holiday season.

Jaybird, I really didn't want to go here but this statement is far from ludicris. I have some better info. laying around the house here but I'll have to look good and hard to find it. For now you can read this.

I feel I'm violating some rules here at DRN and I apologize for that. If I'm warned I will bale out.

Quoted from "Nelson's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Bible Facts";
"We don't know the exact month and day when Jesus was born. The date of December 25 is not very likely. the church in Rome chose that day to celebrate his birth in the second or third century in order to obscure a thoroughly pagan holiday that was traditionally celebrated on that day. Earlier the Eastern Orthodox church chose to honor Christ's birth on January 6, Epiphany. But why set the date in the winter? The shepards would have been least likely to tend their flocks on the hillsides at that time. More likely, Jesus was born in the fall or spring".
It also states that he was probably born in 4 B.C.

i guess it's all in your perspective.

I don't like the "crass commercialism". Wal-Mart had Christmas stuff out before Halloween. The pressure to buy just so your kids will have alot of stuff under the tree is insane. With 3 kids it is amazing how much money you can spend and not buy any "big ticket " items.

Several years back my wife and I decided to cut back on how much we got our kids, they get presents but we don't buy just so they will have a loit of stuff.

To us the real meaning of Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth, which helps to keep things in perspective even if it does seem to put us out-of-step with many of our friends.

I love my relatives too, and since I only see them a couple of times a year I can tolerate them ( they probably feel the same way about me!)

Bottom line - I guess it's perspective.

Christ was born on Christmas day. A fact.
We may choose to celebrate the day on a different calander day, but Christmas was the day Christ was born.

Why would anybody want to celebrate a Birthday? Yes Birthdays suck to. I didn't say anything about celebrating it I just thought I'd change my date of birth because it's more convenient to me. The next one will be 40. This could be a good thing if I was good enough to race in +40 class but those guys would whoop my a$$. I'll stick to C class for now.

There's one Holiday that I like that's the 4th of July. I don't have to deal with tons of BS.

Lighten up and enjoy life, Ken! :)

btw...I'd rather race in the Seniors class anyday as the C's. Us old guys all have the same things in mind! (like not crashing) :D

I think Christmas has gone away from what it really means. Give me my annual "It's A Wonderful Life" airtime and I'm happy.
