I'ved just rebuilt the top end of an '80 175KDX and require an expert (or not so expert) opinion on honing.

The engine has recieved a sleeve previous (cylinder not elctrofusion) and just bored out from 50 mm to 63mm.

After i got it back I washed it thoroughly and tossed the new piston in.

No Honing!!!!

Should I be taking it apart and get the cylinder honed - I have heard that on a 2-stroke it not a huge deal.

Just don't want to get 500yards into a new motor then :uh:

Did you get the cylinder bored from 50 to 63 mm on this rebuild? Or did you just put in a new piston and rings without any additional machining this time? A good shop will hone the cylinder after a bore. Its standard practice for a good machinist. If it wasnt honed, I would take it apart and hone if it was my bike. The cross hatch made on the cylinder from the honing process makes for a good ring seal.

agree with that. if it was bored and not honed, pick a new machine shop. and wash with hot soapy water to clean up after honing.

and oil immediately...if its not plated, it will rust right before your eyes.
