Thought I'd stir the pot today and thow out one of those never ending questions...What three (3) modifications, alterations, or additions do you feel are the most important for making the KDX bullet proof?

Now to make this interesting, lets leave out the usual stuff (pipes, silencers, porting, carb mods, suspension valving, etc.). What I'm looking for are the little detail things that are often unseen or overlooked by the average KDXer that should be addressed to prevent broken parts, breakdowns, etc. that would ruin a day of riding. You get the idea....now lets hear'em!!

Skid plate (Cases are expensive), Barkbusters (To prevent lever breakage), Radiator braces (Radiators are also expensive), and a liberal quantity of grease and loctite.

Fredette chain guide. I have personally seen 3 stock KDX chain guides get demolished and one time it wedged the chain against the sprocket while the bike was stuck in a rut on a steep hill. If we were not carrying the tools to remove the stock guide it would have been a major problem.

Heavy duty tubes are also important.

Stuff you should do:
1. Clean the air filter every ride
2. Change the gear oil every other ride or about 150 miles
3. Clean, grease suspension and swing arm - steering head bearings too every 4 months
4. Run good fuel and good oil
5. Jet it for current conditions
6. lube moving parts after you wash the bike with WD 40
7. check tire air pressure
8. Tighten/check and oil the chain
9. check the spokes every other ride
10. check fasteners periodically
11. flush brake fluid every season
12. Flush coolant every season

It's not just 3 things but it will keep you on the trail. :thumb:

1) Gotta have bark busters.

2) I use an old tube cut open around the outside of heavy duty tubes.
God Bless heavy duty tubes. :thumb:

3) Washing the bike regularily keeps everything happy (thats a scientific term ;) ) and gives you a good look at what may be worn out or on its way out.

Other than all of the above. Glue the rubber boot to the air box, discard the head light hardware and use rubber straps, Goop all lenses in place, replace the fork boots with wipers, seal the mag wires, and replace the rubber handle bar mounts.
