But what I want to know is will a 1989 modle kdx motor fit in my 91 frame ( I can get a cheep 89 engine but will it sit in the frame ok??????

Should be the same. All they changed from 89-94 is the graphics (plus a couple of years had the upside down forks). There's a timeline on the KDX site where major updates occured: http://justkdx.dirtrider.net/
Bummer about the bike.

You'd have to buy the carb separate? Yours still in good nick? If the engine comes with the carb (I doubt it if it's from a wrecker), pick the best one. If separate, don't bother. I'm no expert, but this is the beauty of them not changing anything on the kdx - so many years' stuff fits making it easier to get parts ;)

The 89 motor should bolt up with no changes necessary whatsoever. Just take out the 91 motor and bolt the 89 motor in its place.

What will it cost to ship a 1 lb flywheel from Australia to Michigan. Gotta love UPS, eh?
