:uh: OK Kids, I turn 50 this year and I'm going to by a new bike. I have not had a dirt bike since 1977 and it was a left over 1976 MR175 Honda. I was a good little bike, but now I'm a bit heavier. I'm leaning toward the KLX because of the low end, but from what I read here it doesn't have a lot of fans.
I like 2 strokes but don't want to mess with the premix, but I can get over that.
How about the KDX220 is there much difference power wise with the KDX200 and is it wirth the extra bucks?
I'm going to just trail ride.
Ok, Discuss:cool:

The KLX is a great bike!!!The kdx is great to.You will be happy with either. My dad went throgh the same thing he couldn't decide between the two.He finally went with the klx and is very happy with the decision. He is 46 and he loves it.They both have advantages.I say go with the klx.

KLX info

I purchased a '00 KLX after riding a KX250 for 4 years. The 4-stroker is a much more forgiving machine than any 2-stroker I've been on. There's a site that you should check out for more info PlanetKLX

I've been quite happy with my KLX and Penguin from DRN can answer most any question about this breed you can come up with. Happy hunting!

I went through the same thing a year ago.

I used to ride 17 years ago and decided to get another bike. I was real close to getting the KLX but ended up with a great deal on a left over new 2000 KDX 220 so I got that instead. I'm glad I did. Keep in mind that I rode Enduros when I quit in the 200 A class so I had experience with managing the 2 stroke power - I don't think I would have been happy with the KLX. It has less power than the KDX 220 or even 200 - is mild mannered. I do know that the idler gear needs to be replaced with a stroker one to avoid costly engine damage on the KLX. A problem with that particular model.

However if you are really interested in a good handling well mannered easy to ride in a lazy kind of way bike the KLX is for you. If you desire a little more zip on the trail then KDX will suit you better. The KLX will probably run much longer on a top end but when that KLX does need one it will be more money to fix.

Well, I guess that you can tell by my user name what my opinion is of the KLX. Highly under-rated bike IMHO, and I think alot of guys could be faster on my bike than they could be on one of the taller and/or heavier 4 strokes. (in the woods and trails, where I ride) I'm praying for estart in 2003, although mine starts very easily until you crash (happens to me alot).

Spank,

I think it's new furniture, but it was a little wierd today at the shop to she let me get the more expensive Alpinestars. Man I better start getting some OT just in case. Gotta love her.

Depends

If you have to keep the bike stock then the warranty is not wotth it. What does it cover? What are the restrictions?

extended warranty

I'd pass on the extended warranty. If you get a lot of saddle time in the first 6-months you own it, you'll shake out any problems the waranty would cover. I bought a new KLX300 and blew out the rear shock just beyond the 6-month warranty and the local shop took care of it anyway. I think they take pretty good care of ya if you show that you take care of the equipment and it wasn't an 'abuse' problem. Just my $.02.
