Jeez..Back to the start for me :coocoo: I had a 1985 KDX200 for 13 years, never had any idea it was too small until someone told me (I'm 230 and 6"). Three WR4xx's later (just sold my 05 450) I'm thinking of getting a KDX again (220). I'm doing a few cross-country races in the senior division, slow racing, never going to win :ahhh: ..What do you think? Can it be that bad for a big guy to cruise around on a little KDX? I do quite a bit of single track, some steep goat trails. Don't remember doing the technical stuff that I now do, on the KDX. Thanks and I still have fond memories of that old KDX, never let me down..

I'm 6'2", weigh 230 and love my KDX 200. I put ATV bars (much taller rise) on it and am going to a taller seat foam this winter but other than that it feels great. Wish I would have gotten this bike years ago instead of a way too heavy XR 600, it rules! :boss:

i think you would love a kdx220. I have a kdx220 with a kdx200 carb. Even though this is suppose to take away some of the bottom end the bike is soo soo soo strong going up them hills. I would definatley recommend a kdx220. There is such a huge difernce between the 80's kdx's. My friend has an older kdx and you can't compare the power or the smooth ride. The newer kdx's will always win. I would try getting at least an 2000. They will cost you about $1500 if it is in good shape but it may cost more depending on were you live. I got mine a 2001 for $1300 and i love it. The only upgrade you will need is to put bigger springs in the forks.

you will love it. I just picked up a 03 220 kdx. I am 6' 215 and 40 yrs old. Love how the bike takes on the single track. Rode my buddies WR400, what a pig. I wouldn't touch the bike again. I rode 2 stroke 20 years ago, went to 4 stroke and now back and glad to be here. I now have my buddy thinking about a 2 stroke.

what extras does it have, if it is anywere close to stock dont get it. It is way to high. I got my 2001 for $1700 with new tires, fmf pipe, brush guards, new wheels bearings, and another rear wheel. IM sure you can find a way better deal.

The 200 or the 220 is always the question. Here is some more info (everyone has probably seen this, but here you go)
http://www.motorcycle.com/mo/mckaw/97klx2.html

"Maybe the altitude played with our best judgement but the smaller 200 seems capable of generating power more rapidly and for a longer duration than the 220R."

"At idle both models report almost identical compression ratios but as rpm builds the 200 comes out .7:1 higher.

http://www.motorcycle.com/mo/mcdirt/trailrider/1kdx200.html

"Top-end power is somewhat softer on the 220, but it's hard to actually feel it when you're riding."

I have a CR500 also :yikes: I need less power and less maintenance than that of the WR450 I just sold..But I'm just looking for any KDX 200 or 220. I rode a 85 200 for 13 years, so anything will have more power. I'm going to check the bike out and make an offer tomorrow.. :ride:

i would not pay more than 2k but im sure he will take that. That would be top dolloar for a kdx around here. But im sure the bike is near mint if he is asking that much.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but lately I'm learning that more power does not always mean more fun. I rode KTM's in Utah in May, and had more fun on the KTM250F than the KTM400F's. I have a KX-250, but I usually have more fun on the KDX-200. The combination of weight, explosive power and stiff suspension just tire me out. I like to ride for hours at a time, and that requires a light comfortable bike with a plush ride. Besides, the KDX does doubles jumps just fine.

Picked up a 2003 200 for $1900..Has reeds and a flat slide Mic..FMF exhaust and a bunch of other crap..Starts on the first kick (good I hope)..putting some tires and brakes on it, torn the steering and swing arm apart..still greased. Was geared 13/45, ordered 12/48 combo, have a new chain off one of my past bikes. So we will see how it does this weekend. It did wheelie with ease with my 230 pound fat arse and a 45t rear sprocket..
