WEll here is my freinds statis. He is working a job that gets him about $100-$150 a week. He has about $350 saved right now. He bought a 86 xr200 a month back. It needs a top end and tires and a a few other things that is gonna cost him about what he has right now.

I ride a 2001 kdx220 and my other friend rides a 400ex.
Basically he will be riding with us and racing us in the trails. We do time trials like everyday. and i plan on going with him on some harescramlbes.

My question is what do you all think he should do. Do you all think he should save for a newer and better race/harescramlbe bike or should he just fix his xr200.

It is his second bike. He knows how to shift but he old bike was a peice of crap. He is only 5'6'' and 125 pounds. If you all think he should save for a newer bike what do you think he should save for that can compete with a kdx and a 400ex and also do some harescrambles. Thanks. I was thinnking he might want more of a 2 stroke because they are cheaper. And when i say save i mean he is going to save to about $1000-$1200.

How long will it take him to get $1200? $1500 would be better . . .

You can get a quite nice bike for $1500. Under that, it seems to be kind of a crapshoot.

are you saying my kdx was a crapshoot? I got mine for $1300. . Anyway, do you know if a 125 mx bike would work better or should he stay with the xr?

No, if its in good shape I'd say your KDX was a VERY GOOD deal - that's what I meant - you can find good bikes cheap, but they tend to be few and far between.

A late 90s to early 2000s 125 MX bike would be worlds better than an 86 XR200 as far as suspension and handling.

The motor on any 125 will be peaky and more difficult to ride.

So . . .

Fix the XR. XRs are bulletproof and can be competitive in the C class. I raced a 1999 XR200R for 3 seasons.
