Can someone tell me how the code works for the Keihin needle on my 2000 KX250? The stock needle is a N3WE. Some options are N3WD & N3WF and N3YE. Do the last 2 digits specify the straight-portion diameter and taper angle?

I had my KX bored to 310 and I want to know what my options are if I want to try fine tuning the jetting.

Thanks!

I checked out both of these sites but they don't seem to "decode" the KX needles. I ran into this problem with my freinds '99 and can't seem to find out what the coding means. James Dean, any ideas?

KDX vs KX needles

I looked at those links and they didn't seem to apply directly to my N3WE needle. Those links use N427-48???.

I'm guessing that the W in N3WE specifies the straight-portion diameter and that the E specifies the taper angle. And that the N3WF and N3YE needles are leaner.

Can anyone confirm or reject that theory?

Not sure if this will help but on the rm, the w and y are the same needle, with the y being only a 1/2 step leaner. The 5th (top) notch on the y is between the 5th and 4th on the w. The next letter specifies needle diameter. w,j,k,l,m where w is the thinnest and m would give you the leanest mixture up to about 3/8 throttle. Clip position has more effect from 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Just quoting the manual.

Chief, doe your manual say anything what the N1 or N3 stands for? I have here a couple of needles that are obviously coded with the same system. N1EC, N1ED, N1EE.

TM-Frank,

That's all I got. I guess that's all that pertains to the 01 rm 250. The carb type is keihn pwk38s. 38mm carb. Here is the outer diameters of these designations, it is the mid section only.

w=2.735mm
j=2.745mm
k=2.755mm
l=2.765mm
m=2.775mm

Maybe you could check w/ someone else or a dealer, or get a measurement on them. Also it doesn't look like the length or the angle of taper changes on my needles, only the mid section.

Good Luck,

Joe Chief
