I have an 87 KDX 200 and my kicker would not engage at different times. I opened the right side clutch case and changed the kicker spring and kick boss. This helped my out when I was stuck and stalled going up the hills. Check all components while in there.. ratched, clips kicker shaft and gears. Also check the exhaust advance and bearings.
