I have an 89 kdx200 and the kickstarter is starting to slip pretty bad. Kawasaki has cancled the gear spur (59051-1152), will a gear spur from a more current kdx200 fit? Has anyone had one made from a mechine shop?
bikebandit has it, but it's like $80. :|. OUCH. I don't know if there's a difference in the newer ones or not. I think there are a couple on ebay right now as well. ;).
push starting is fine until you get stuck in a spot where you can't.
Another thing it could be, there's a small spring that engages the spur gear to the ratchet gear. If you take that spring and bend it out a bit it could help it engage.
I had the same problem on my 1990. I went to www.kawasaki.com and cross referenced the part #'s the next one worked fine. can't remember the year or part#. I also replaced the spring. First kick everytime, no more shin injuries
