I'm wondering what brands of kidney belts are you guys wearing?

I never purchased one and after my last ride I decided I need one. It turned out TTRGuy had one so I wore it on the second day of our last ride. I think it was made by Fox but other than that I don't remember what kind it was and the problem with it was that it kept riding up.
Obviously women are slightly hippier than men (some of us more than others) and I need the support down lower not around my waist which is where the damn thing kept ending up.

Anyone else have this problem or am I just too horribly misshapen? Do they made different shapped ones? Help!

I have the Moose one and it works great because it has a main velcro thing and then a secondary one. With the secondary one you can tighten it up more so that it won't creep up. Check it out on www.mooseracing.com

I have a Fox belt, Turbo model I believe. It is padded and flexible, with two velcro straps. The last one I had was also Fox, but it had a wide plastic panel in back which wasn't as comfortable.

You want it to fit snug around your kidney area (obviously)--this is what seems to get most tired on long rides. The nice thing is, you can usually go to your local shop and try a few on to see how they fit. I definitely have noticed a difference on those rare occasions when I ride without the belt.

GSR,

I have the Fox kidney belt as well and haven't had any particular problems with it. It also has the primary velcro in front and then the two "cinching"
velcros on the sides. Was this similar to the one you wore? The only
problem is that sometimes it gets stuck above my pants when I get
thrown off the bike...nothing a simple tuck doesn't fix. I can't say it
rides up much while I am riding though. Maybe the one you were wearing
was too big?

I've got the MSR belt that sounds similar to the Moose one, a main velcro and 2 secondary velcros. The MSR's come in 7" and 9" wide belts, get the narrowest one you can find and it won't ride up so much. I had the same problem with the standard width belts, after riding awhile it felt like I was wearing the belt around my rib cage! :scream:

gsr,
Try one of the Kevco-Stubbs (marketed by Moose & MSR) belts.
They work very well & easily adjust to fit all shapes.
I have a spare that I will take to Reno if you want to try it.

I have an EVS one that fits really well, better than the MSR one I had before.

Jiggle Belts (that's what my kids call them - just before I smack 'em one! ;))

I also use the Fox Turbo with the main velcro and secondary side velcro's. I used to have the Fox Hybrid with the plastic panel in the back but I like the no plastic Turbo better.

I haven't had trouble with it riding up but I wear it over my jersey & under my pants.

GSR, just living in California makes you more hippier!!! :p ;)

Hmmm, first of all, I didn't even realize they made them without the rubber/plastic part in the back. I thought that was what gave you the support? If I got one that didn't have that then perhaps that would stop my 'riding up' problem.

Second, this may sound lame but how exactly does the sizing work? Or is it just something I'll have to try on for fit?

The kidney belt I had on did have 2 velcro straps, one big fat one and one longer narrower one.

Thanks John, I'll probably take you up on that offer. :)

Thanks for all the information.

Where would I buy one a those? Cause sometimes I can feel things rattlin in there. I don't think that's good.

OK this is going to sound cheap but...

I bought one of those back braces you can get at The Home Depot for $10.00. They come sm-med-lg and I cut the suspenders off from it to make a kidney belt. It's black and it works just fine. It has 2 velcro straps on it so you can really tighten it up. At least its inexpensive to try and see if it helps. Back in the late 70's when I raced I wore a JT Racing Kidney Belt all the time and they are no different than these back braces they sell at Home Depot.
