Alright, I ride a '99 KX250 with every imagineable mod done to it minus eric gorr's big bore jobs. I have been riding this bike for 2 years now and its fast.. really fast. But its also a brute. Its got enough power and torque to flyswat you backwards into the dirt. Thats a good thing and lends to big grins when you are first getting out on the track or trail in the morning.. but makes me fight the bike by the time the sun is going down. I cant really figure out if i find it heavy, or if it just feels heavy because of all that power. Anywhoo, I rode my friend CR125, i cant remember the year it was, but its the last year they came with a 6 speed. I really enjoyed it, it was very easy to ride. I am now kicking around the idea of a KTM 125SX, but i am worried that i will get bored with the power, but im not sure. I was therefore also considering the KTM 200SX... but what i want to know is, does it feel like a 125? or an underpowered 250? What i really want is a 125 with more power everywhere, not just more bottum end slapped onto a 125 power band. can anyone let me know about this 200SX? i know plenty about the 125SX, what i want to know is how does a 200SX handle? how does it feel and what is its power distrobution most like? explosiveness like a 125 is fine, but weight like a 250 isnt. just give me your opinions guys. thanks.

Well, I rode a 520 for 3 yrs, sold it and got to borrow a friends 200 exc, all I can tell you is, I had a blast, it's light and had plenty of power, went everywhere my 520 would go and with less fatigue.

I also know a guy who went 3rd overall at a Desert scramble on a 200sx, that was competeing against all the open class bikes, he couldn't hang in the Valleys, but he pull them back in and passed in the techy stuff, only to lose it again in the next valley.

Since I sold my 520, I have had the oppertunity to ride a couple of 250's,a 426 and this 200 and the 200 was the most fun to ride.

Just my opinon

Oh and I weight 210#

The 200 isnt a fast 125 or a slow 250-its right in the middle-much more roll on power than a 125 but still revs really high, its not got the brute power of a 250 but it doesnt go flat on high revs like a 250.It really is the middle of the two.It feels lighter than a 250 but not as light as a 125(but very close)

man, this is so hard, and it always is. im kicking around the idea of one of them new-fangled 250F's as well. which do u think is a bit quicker? the YZ250F or one of these KTM200SX. The 200SX right? because i mean.. a KTM 125SX usually hangs right with them. I love KTM's... but they are so damn expensive. My dad had a 450EX/C before he sold it for a harley.. 7200 buckaroos. that aint cheap. i wonder what the "new" KTM 250F will be like. I have a feeling that will be the ultimate answer to my bike question... but who knows what the price will be, along with how it will preform.

I own an 03 200sx and it is a blast to ride. I ride HS and do some light MX for fun and practice.
Marcus hit it on the head, it really is it's own bike. It feels like a 125 in the handling dept, but the motor is all it's own. Do a search over at KTMTALK.com and you will get some very high opinions of this bike.
This bike always puts a smile on my face!

Good luck

I have just bought a 2004 KTM200exc (pick up on the w/end) :yeehaw: I'm stepping back from an FE400 'berg. At 102kg the 200exc is very light, it stands up in all but top without effort and it also has a 125 size chassis. The test ride sealed it. I dont need heavy 119kg bike anymore even if it did rail like a demon. :p

what did you pay for your 200exc? Im lookin into getting a new one. I ride a 2000 gg ec200 and was thinkin of replacing it with the 04 exc200 or 04 husky te250.
I rode my bros 250exc and my cousins 250rfs and it made me wonder if i really want a 4-stroke. I love my 200!

One of our top local pro's was running a 200SX in the 250 class last season and didn't give up a thing. If anything I think he was faster on the 200 since he was always a better 125 rider than 250 rider. I have been jonesyn for a new bike for awhile now and I'm not sure I want to go 250/450 so I was really debating the 250f/200sx scenario as well. The only down side I can see is resale for KTM's around here seems poor. As one guy said to me "buying the KTM would be like asking out the ugly girl, you'll probably have her forever since no one will be coming along to take her off your hands."

i am still thinking about the 200sx myself. i ride an 02 yz 250f right now and i love the power of 250f but there is so much i dont like about it. i am concered that if i buy the 200sx that i will have problems adapting to the two stroke motor since i pretty much learned to ride on the 250f and i have very little expirence with a two stroke. i wish i could ride one first before i actually make a decision to buy one.

the 2-stroke ktm's cost the same as a japanese equivalent ???
a 200 sx is a couple hundred...suggested list less than a 250.

the 4-stroke's are up there but not that out of line, imo.

My 2001 Exc 200 has the flickablilty of a 125 and overal grunt of a bike much bigger. My flywheel has added weight so it doesn't rev as quickly but can hang with the 250 easily. I ride HS and it does everything I could want. Wish I could ride it as hard as it deserves! :flame:
