I have a friend who recently purchased a 2003 KX-250. I have read up on the addition of a flywheel weight. I was curious if there were other mods that could be useful?

The owner plans to do mostly gravel road riding, but I am trying to convince the guy to do a little trail riding too. (It's would be easier if the guy has a bike that can handle the trails up here in British Columbia. (Tight woods similar to east coast US.)

Getting the suspension set up properly is key to enjoying riding only trails. Unless he's really light you can get a MX bike to ride decent in the woods but if he's really serious about a plush ride he might consider a revalve. Other good woods mods are Handguards and a skidplate for protection. An O-ring chain will last longer in a trail environment and gearing down a tad will help as well for putting around the trails. Hope he enjoys his 03. I just bought an 04 and haven't even had a chance to start it yet.

If you can get your hands on the March 24, 2004 edition of Cycle News, there is a 'Bike of the Stars' page on Steve Hatch's '04 KX250. Looks like he's using Factory Connection suspension, FMF pipe and silencer, Moto-Tassarini reed block, Scott's damper, and a few goodies from e-line www.elineaccessories.com and zip-ty.

It's good, I think I'll stick with 11 oz. Still revs quicker than my KTM 300 but not as stall-prone. Not that you can't stall it...guys who come off KTM 4-strokes and ride my KX tend to get a little annoyed with it. It's a good woods bike if you like to be aggressive.
