All I know is when I went last summer, on my way out to the dam, I was passed by at least a half dozen trucks with orange bikes in them! NO, I didn't have my bike! they went somewhere on the other side of the dam.
There is a few different places out here in Vegas. The spot I usually go to is called APEX. It has a little bit of every thimg I enjoy riding in from little dunes to hard packed, there is also a little wanabee MX track. The track is pretty rough but who ever made it tried. To get there take N. LAs Vegas Blvd and keep going north on it untill you almost hit the 15. You will see it on the right. There is also another place that is more like trail riding that I go to close to Eldarado Mtn. Its pretty rocky but still is a fun place. To get there take Craig Rd exit off of 15 north and take craig west. take a right turn on Losee Rd and follow it out across the 215, you will go through a gate and see a little platue. Thats where I park and take off to the Mtn, you will see trails going up the Mtn. Good luck and if you need a riding budy let me know If Im in town, I would love to go. Email me at [email protected].
You might have a look at Nelson Hills. Some really fun trails out there, and the site for many a desert race.
Take Highway 93 south towards Boulder City. Just past Railroad Pass, make a right on the highway that takes you to Laughlin, Searchlight and Needles CA. Drive about 15 minutes till you come to the Nelson turnoff and make a left. After a few miles start looking for a well worn pole line road heading into the mountains on the south (right) side of the road and take it. Unload at the clearing about a mile back and have a ball.
I'm flying out to Vegas for a sales meeting in 2 weeks. We've booked a ride with a tour company that leaves from the Primm Valley Resort and Casino. Obviously this is located in Primm Valley and is accross the street from Whiskey Pete's.
I looked it up on Map quest and it about 30 miles soutwest of town off of I-15. From what I can remember I think part of the old Barstow to Vegas course went through this area. I know the race course was never too far from the interstate.
I'll post a ride report in 3 weeks. I can't wait to go.
Timr, you're correct about the B to V race course being very close to the casino. They used to pit there. You will also be not too far from Dumont Dunes, approx. 20 miles west of Baker. Bring some warm gear; the desert air is chilly this time of year!
I rode with Vegas Off Road last year with Dave Dunn and had a great day{Hey where are all the trees} riding a Ktm 380 Mx with a scotts damper. Dave really tries to match up days to ride for folks with like minded abilities so noboby is riding over their heads. I suggest you call him after you decide to go. Hey you can lose twice the amount of money in Vegas for the priceless memories you will take home with you. I had never ridden the dessert before so this really open up my eyes.
We're riding out of the parking lot at Whiskey Pete's in Primm Valley. It's about 45 min from Vegas.
My buddy and I went out there Sunday in a rented Jeep and scouted the place out. Immediatly, I recognized the hill behind the casino from a picture in Dirt Bike magazine of Dan Smith coming down that hill on his Husky. This was back when the magazines still did articles about things like Desert racing.
We drove down some two tracks and climbed the big mountain in the Jeep. Once you get about 15 miles out from the Casino, we started to see some single track type of trails.
Just found out that I'll be out in Vegas the week of January 3-7 on business. The good wife willing, I'm thinking about extending the trip into the weekend to hook up with a local tour company and do some desert riding.
Just following up on the experience you had with Admo-Tours and riding the Primm Valley area. I'm born and bred on Michigan single track, so the desert will be a whole new experience. Any advice / recommendations?
Hey Smitty. Seems like a posted a ride report somewhere for this ride. We had a blast, but it's totally different than what we usually ride. The Admo tours guy is a great guy and a lot of fun to spend the day with. The bikes are DRZ400s. They were in pretty good shape. I had no complaints with my bike. One of my buddies was on a bike that didn't have aftermarket exhaust and he thought that it was a little under powered for the sand washes. We didn't ride anything that was too technical or too tight. What we did get was mileage. We did about 135 miles for the day, and the sun was just setting when we pulled back into the parking lot. Having never ridden in the desert, I think it was totally worth it. All in all, a very fun day.
There is another tour guy out of Las Vegas. His tours are more off-road focues. He uses KTM 450s and 525s. I think he just got two new 450s. I can find out his details, if you want. He goes to a place north of Las Vegas, I think.
Also, Rv6Junkie, rode with Uwe (the admo guy) about two weeks after I did. I think he had a good time too. He posted about it somewhere.
Oh, BTW, if you watch the Red Bull Dakar rider search show on OLN, you will see the exact trails that we rode on. In fact, one morning, they left on a simulated special test from the parking lot of Whiskey Pete's.
Ya, I searched for your ride report, but couldn't find it.
I did just find the other guy, Dave Dunn at www.vegasoffroad.com. Some of the site links are dead, but I'll call him to get more info. I think I'd be more into the KTM offroad-only adventure!
Just signed up for a single track adventure, desert-style, with Vegas Offroad. Evidently the tour company was recently sold to a guy named Steve, a good friend of Dave Dunn's. Looks like the 380 MXC will be my steed of choice.
i am on my way down to vegas friday the 4th of feb thru ? probably the 11th. Am interested in riding with someone who knows some really tight single track in the area. I am coming down from tahoe with my 450.
We ride from the hills in back of the Anthem development, accessed by heading south on Eastern from the 215, turn Left on Renion, another left on Arpeggio and you'll see the start of the trail at the end of Arpeggio. Took us all of the way out to a dry lake bed. From there head southwest along the pole line road and after about 15-20 miles you get to some really nice whoop sections and more staging area, which I supposed are accessible from the I--15. Keep heading past this area and you hit the I-15. Head north until you start seeing all of the billboards for the Las Vegas stip hotels and shows, right where you veer left and down into the LV valley on I-15. Head east from there and it takes you back into the Anthem neighborhood. About a 50 mile loop.
I am new to the city, have an older bike, that I want to take for a spin in the dirt.
looking for a family friendly place to ride, Do I need to register the bike here?
or if I head into calif, do I need to register it there?
(Problem is I dont have a title, and dont know if it is worth trying to get one, or even possible to get one)
