No matter how I jet I can't get rid of a low end sputter at 0-1/4
throttle.

It's more annoying sound wise than really any major performance reasons but I'd still like to get rid of it.

It's a 2005 KDX220R.

Thanks for your help

There's a few things to check here. Check your reeds for wear/cracks, and if those are all good then move onto your jetting. It sounds like you might need to adjust your pilot jet size. I was having a similar issue and went down a step on my pilot, that cleaned it up.

Check those out and let us know...

Well, after I posted you edited your original post to add "no matter how I jet." Have you actually worked on the jetting or are you expecting the issue to be something else?

I've spent many a weekend rejetting and riding hoping to make a difference.

Has anyone ever tryed a 6.0 cut away slide ? The stock one is a 5.0 which works perfect on a KDX-200.

220's are tricky from what I have read.... I have a 200 and dailed it in no problem try switching to a 200 engine your problems should clear up

Ha Ha ,,, but I agree that a 200 is a piece of cake and very forgiving to close / aproximate jetting.

I'd still take the 220 motor any day for trail riding , the extra torque
is worth the hastle.

I'm going to pick up a 6.0 mm taper carb slide and see if that helps .
This fine tunes the bike from 0-1/3rd throttle according to the Keihin site.

I have a 2003 220. It still has the stock jetting and reeds that it came with. It has always ran well throughout the power range. It has a desert pipe and a flywheel weight and still runs clean at sea level.

This is a 2005 220 with a 35mm carb , no air box lid ,
Pro-circuit pipe and silencer.

Bike was bought brand new in crate in 2009.

A real keeper

I had a set Boyesen 607 reeds in it but wasn't too impressed as after just a short time they didn't seal tight against the cage so I
put back in the stock reeds ( which I'd never run ) and it was much better except for this stutter.

Did the flywheel weight make a big difference ?

I've got a 6mm slide that I'll try this weekend.

I had a friend machine off a mm from my 33mm carb slide.

I installed the 6mm slide today.

Man , what a difference !

I didn't realize how much the stutter " rich " was effecting the
bottom end as now with just a quick blip of the throttle she'll
pick the front end.

I only had time for a short ride but this is deffinitly a major step in
the right dirrection.
