Are low flow pistons at a disadvantage when it comes to offroad conditions like roots and rocks? I know for the bigger hits they are awesome...
Please exscuse my total lack of knowledge........looking for enlightenment.

I have alway's been of the impression, a well engineered lower flow design, is not in itself a hindrance in this situation. But that it requires a more specific, or fine tuning of the valving for quality results.

I have the low flow pistons in my CRF. done by Jeremy. I had them revalved for offroad/roots and rocks and there is definately no disadvantage to the low flow design. As far as the technical reason Jeremy will have to explain why, but they work great.

If I had to guess (Jeremy correct me) I would say its because the low flow design allows a higher velocity of oil through the shim stack. This high velocity has nothing to do with a harsh feeling because the oil is still flowing. The advantage is that the shim stack can have a more accurate control over the oil if its moving faster.
