Is it possible to lower an XR200? My wife tried an XR200 and while she could ride it no problem when she had to stop and put a foot (toe) down it often toppled over because she wasn't strong enough to hang on to it. I think if the bike were lower she could manage it better...is it possible to lower an XR 200 a couple of inches?

Thanks for your input!

Well, the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to take the seat cover off, carve some seat padding out with an electric turkey knife or any sharp knife, and staple the seat cover back on. After that, ya prolly have to look at the suspension. Or, she could get a Gas Gas Pampera. (I thought I'd say that before BunduBasher got to it; LOL!)

OR a BBR... They're lower (due to smaller wheel size) and much, much lighter. Stock XR200: 222 lbs. BBR200: 190 lbs.

Makes it a lot easier to handle once it starts to tip!

Just more foodsies for thought.... - E-T

oh no, please! you took that all wrong.... I'm just such a huge fan of BBRs I just want to see more people trying or riding 'em.

Sorry if you felt pinged. "go, {name}, go" is just how Susan and I egg each other on when we get wound up on something fun. I was encouraging you!

Cheers! - rb

Devol Engineering

There's an ad for MotoSport Outlet in Dirt Rider. They offer the "XR Lo Link" by Devol Engineering -- it replaces a link in the rear suspension to lower the seat height. $69.95

I'm glad you mentioned the lowering link, Pantaz, because I've seen 'em on an XR400, but just didn't know if they made 'em for XR200s.

Yobedoc- It may sound like we are trying to sway you from the XR200, but not true. The XR200 is a decent trail bike. We're more just making sure your wife rides on a bike that fits and mentioning that she has options! The BBR is a really nice option for shorter folks and FC22 can tell ya all about 'em since she works for 'em and has the scoop. The Pampera is a nice trail bike too with full-sized wheels. We (smaller women) have lots of options these days, which is a very cool thing.

As for YOU, E-Ticket, YOU are a TOTAL SWEETIE and so supportive of The Ant that I could just hug you! I'm glad you found BBR because now The Ant is comfortable riding some quite technical trails she might otherwise have missed. It's such a great combination: a bike that fits and a supportive significant other! :)

aw..... garsh. [blush] it's nothing... really. <grin>

Actually, I'm probably more the lucky one. I was married 14 years to my first wife (boy, that still sounds funny to say...). Wonderful lady. But get sweaty or dirty? Nope. No way, Jose. Un-huh... ain't gonna' happen.

Along comes the Ant (aka Susan) - who ALREADY had a motorcycle (an old BMW). And who, after riding dirt bikes for just a little bit, is busting MY chops 'cause I didn't want to go ridin' 'cause it was too muddy. woof!

Best moment? We're at the Elsinore Grand Prix in California. Susan's goes *blasting* by on her XR200 (complete w/ bikini top w/ *balloons* on the front number plate and the bottoms duct-taped to the rear fender.... had to let 'em know she was a girl you know...<g>) and I holler, " get 'em, SUSAN!"

And this guys standing next to me goes, "who's that?" "Oh, my girlfriend."
And he gets this wistful, sad look on his face and says, "... your girlfriend rides?" "Yup, sportbikes, too." "Man.... I'd give *anything* to have my girlfriend ride too."

<big grin> So, yah... it's a win for me too. a way cool bike (BBR) that fits and supportive significant other that rides and races! wheeeee!

As for the XR200 - I saw a pic on another site where someone had mounted up *real* forks complete w/ a disc brake. Throw on an aftermarket shock and ta-da... a pretty great bike.

I just like the BBRs better. <grin> -- E-T
