maintenance question

I have a 01 rm250 and with the maintenance stuff the guy at the honda shop told me all this stuff that I need so I am just making sure he is not just trying to get me to buy stuff that isnt really needed
1) for the transmission oil can you just us 10W40 if you change it often or do we need the special stuff
2)what about the air filter lube?
3)with the gear clean/lube do I need the special stuff?

The clutch disks are the issue, you need the additives for them. Some automotive oils will work, and I'm sure recommendations are coming. Or do a search on transmission oils on here.

2)what about the air filter lube?

You definitely need to clean and re-oil the filter regularly. You need a cleaner also. I think some use kerosene, but I don't.
