I have lost confidence I what I think I know so I'll check with the experts.:scream:

Which direction does the master link clip face on the chain? Does the open end of the clip face front (forward) or rear (backward) based on the rotation of the chain?

The open end should face backward relative to the direction of the chain. IOTW, when the master link is above the swingarm between the front and rear sprockets, the open end should be to the rear adn the closed end toward the front.

The theory is that if the open end were facing forward, it could catch on something and get removed accidently as the chain moves forward.

Dang it Taraker! Didn't you ask me this same question on the phone this morning? Sheesh - did you think I'd mislead you or what?

Dirt Bike Dave said the same thing I did. The CLOSED end of the link goes towards the front in the direction the chain travels. That way it can't get snagged and pop off.

You must be gettin' senile in your old age!
