Honda's Davi Millsaps to debut aboard the CRF450R at Hangtown Motocross Classic
[img2=left]http://dirtrider.net/news/millsaps2.jpg[/img2]Torrance, CA: Round One of the AMA Motocross Championship kicks off at the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, California on May 20-21, and no one is better prepared to do battle than the Honda Red Riders. This year the stage is set for one of the best racing seasons ever, with a host of Honda-mounted riders vying for championships including a hungry, young up-and-comer who will be switching classes as the outdoor season begins. Team Honda's rookie Davi Millsaps, the 18-year-old from Cairo, Georgia will make his career debut in the AMA Motocross series aboard Honda's powerful CRF450R. Millsaps recently won the 2006 AMA Supercross Lites East Championship and holds nine AMA Amateur titles.
"I'm really excited about our lineup for the AMA Motocross season", said Honda Motocross Team Manager Erik Kehoe. "Davi has really taken a liking to the CRF450R, and he's really excited to compete in the premier class of motocross, having just earned his championship in Supercross Lites. We're looking forward to a great season of racing."
Returning in 2006 for Team Honda is another talented rider, 27-year-old Travis Preston. Travis has built a formidable reputation in the sport and he will also ride the Honda CRF450R four-stroke. Their teammate Andrew Short finished second in the 2005 125 Motocross Championship Series (renamed Motocross Lites for 2006), and recently won the 2006 East/West shootout staged in Las Vegas. Short hails from Murrieta, California and will contest the Motocross Lites series aboard the Honda CRF250R four-stroke machine.
This season you should also expect to find Kevin Windham and his Honda CRF450R right at the front of the pack. The Mississippi native completed the 2005 Motocross Championship in second position, earning 10 podium finishes out of the 12-round series for the Sobe/Samsung Mobile Honda team.
Sobe/Samsung Mobile Honda also fields a premier squad of young Motocross Lites riders including Josh Grant, Tommy Hahn, Billy Laninovich, Jake Weimer and Joaquim Rodriques. All riders will compete aboard the Honda CRF250R.
